Hey guys, I just got myself a Vortex Strike Eagle and an ADM QD Recon Mount for my rifle and the vortex scope covers that came with it died within the three days of owning it (one had its pin come loose and the spring went flying, the other had the plastic holding the cap onto the rest of the cover fall off), ad seeing as I doubt one range trip to zero the scope and putting under 100 rounds through it would be enough to make decent scope covers die, would anyone have any recommendations for good flip-up scope covers that can take a bit of a beating for under $50?

Buy some Butler creeks. I have had a set on my .22 mag that beats around in my truck for over a year now. They aren't broke and they haven't came off yet. They are like $25 for a set.

Butler Creek's are junk.
You'll spend more but Tenebraex is the item you seek.

Butler creek is junk. It's above your price point, but I got a set of the AAD Mount scope caps and they are the best I've ever used. They use a very good screw clamp method for attachment and the polymer is very durable. They have a lifetime warranty no matter how you break them. But again, they're expensive at $100

I have everything from cheap bikini caps to superb Leupold screw in all metal Alumina fold flat and proprietary fold flat Kahles caps.  In between are caps from scope manufacturers like Nikon and Weaver.

But most of my hunting scopes wear simple Butler Creek caps.  Probably close to a dozen rifles wearing them. Some are many decades old and are holding up just fine.

Unless you have a high end high dollar scope, or want a cosmetic improvement, they will get the job done.  If it bothers you, as cheap as they are, carry a second pair with you in the field.    Chances are good you'll never need to use the second set.

While not elegant or fold flat, they work.  I see no reason to turn my nose up at them.

Ok, the Butler Creeks sounds like a good interim until I decide whether or not to lay down the money for the more expensive covers, though the hard part for me is finding any place that can tell me the sizes I need for the Strike Eagle. Any ideas on where I can go to find that out?
