I have an Aimpoint with a 2MOA dot, but for me, my EOTech's circle dot was always faster within 100 yards--

Does any company make a good quality (non-Chinese $50 POS)? Am waiting on the Elcan HCO, but it may be awhile, since it only recently made its debut.

thanks

Chinese, yes. POS, IMHO, no: Holosun, specifically 503GU. I did a torture test on one and it held up really well. I have a series of videos out on them. Can't beat the clear glass and reticle.

There web site keeps circling back to a blog & home page....

If they make their sights like their web page...

However, I've also heard that in many instances the Chinese products are made by the same plants making their military gear....

First impressions, who needs em? It seems to be working now. They may have been working on the site- I don't remember there being a reflex section in the online store before.

There's a picture floating around of fighters using Holosuns on their Aks in Ukraine.

I also just recently purchased a Holosun HS503C for my ar15. It is currently mounted using the stock lower 1/3 cowitness mount and held up fine for about 100 rounds now. You can switch between a 2MOA dot or a 65MOA circle dot similar to what the Eotech has. Both are very clear and crisp even out in bright sun on highest setting. I really like the 65moa dot when I'm out in the lake shooting soda cans and such. The 2moa dot is very nice for range shooting. Switching between the 2 dots does not shift your point of impact.

That HS503c is a good choice. I found the dot even more clearly defined than the AimPoint T-2.
However, I also think the circle dot works better in a full sized sight vs a micro sight.

I've got one of these, no complaints.

Apologies if this is off topic too much.  While not a circle dot, you might want to look at the duty grade triangle type reticle red dots if you can't find what you are looking for. Triangle type reticles have a broad base, very conspicuous body, and provide rapid target acquisition while having a fine point at the tip for precision shot placement.

I'm running the duty grade Leupold DeltaPoint Pro with the 7.5 MOA "Delta" (triangle) and like it much.   It is motion activated so battery life should be in years   It can be mounted either absolute co-witness (my preference) or lower 1/3 with proper riser and ADM makes a QD mount for it.  This will be Aimpoint Pro or EOTech priced, but is very, very rugged.  It has no tunnel effect and does not block out field of view with its body.  Photo below is the screen size and field of view of the DP Pro compared to a typical 20mm tube type red dot.

The dot is turned up a bit higher than necessary in the photo below, but this illustrates the reticle design and field of view from behind the optic.

That does look nice.

I wonder what "real life" battery life is like?

All I can say is that it uses the same motion activation system as a Leupold VX-R scope I have.  It's too early to tell about the DP Pro's battery life because I've only had it a few months.  The scope is still on its original battery after more than three years.  I would expect battery life to be similar.

Curious, how would you describe the sensitivity of Leupold motion sensor?
Vibrations in the floor sensitive, placing object on table next to it sensitive, touching sight sensitive, etc.

Can't say.  The red dot and scope are both in a bedroom closet next to where I sleep.  The dot is on the carbine. Both stay "on".  Each can be manually turned off by holding the illumination selector down for a full five seconds.  I do that for vehicle transport, but not otherwise.  When in active mode, the illumination shuts off when motionless for five minutes, then returns to its last intensity setting when picked up.  I guess I'll have to try some vibration tests to see how much it takes to turn them on.  It seems like it must take some motion, as opening and closing closet drawers and the door are not pulling the battery down on either.  Constant motion, as in a moving vehicle probably would.

Each is QD mounted and sighted in for the same rifle.  The scope has seen several thousand rounds at the range and a couple seasons of still hunting on its original and only battery.

I've run into the same issue. Great sights don't have that nice fast ring. :(

Trjicon is the worst culprit, as I would buy and SRS or an MRO in a heartbeat if they had the horseshoe reticle you can get in the ACOG.
srsly... wtf Trijicon..... This is a chunk of money I WANT to throw at you that you're missing out on.....

Leupold makes a Mk4 CBQ scops that has a really nice ring reticle, but it's like looking through a damn straw at a target. I need something nice and open.

I've been impressed by Vortex's green dot. I thought it was a gimmick at first, but that green is fast as hell to acquire and aim. Its the best alternative I've found tot he ring.

However, I still can't get rid of that EOTech I have that's still alive and kicking and holding zero like a boss. It's just too nice and fast.

I've replaced my Eotech 512 and 552's with the Holosun HS515C's and one, on my daughter's rifle, HS503FL with riser
(very similar to the 503GU).

I am very happy with these.

The 515C's have auto brightness via the little solar panel.  They can be switched to manual brightness (like Eotech).
My daughter has the 503FL which the brightness is set manually just like the Eotech.  In fact, I think all button
commands of the 503FL and Eotech are the same.

How's the reticle on a bright day?

+1 on the Vortex 1X prism sight.

We sold the fool out of the 1Xs in the shop for $299.  I have three of them (one AR...one shotgun and a brand new never opened spare) and don't usually run the lighted reticle unless lighting is really low. The black etched reticle looks great in any daylight situation IMO and if you must run lighted..either.the red or green option show up well at the higher half of the lighting scale. They've proven to tough and durable too.

The only thing wrong with these Vortex products IMO?

They just haven't caught on yet.
