| I'm replacing my eotech with a scope and I'm leaning towards the SWFA . I like that the reticle is daytime bright and I've read the glass is really good for $400. Also in the running is the MTAC 1-4, the strike eagle and the Viper pst 1-4. It will be on a colt 6920 and be used out to 300 yards for target practice and coyotes. I also want to use it like a red dot for close range stuff, so I want as close to a true 1x as possible. Thoughts on any of the listed scopes? |
| I highly doubt the illumination is daylight bright. I think the SWFA SS HD 1-4 is but that's an $800 dollar scope. The Classic 1-4 actually looks decent. I really like the reticle and I'm sure that the scope is quality because it's SWFA but I was just mentioning that because it would suck to get two different products mixed up and as a result become disappointed. |

You are correct. I have one and I would absolutely not call it daylight bright. You can see it, but it is faint and in no way like a red dot or something like that. |

I'm willing to step up to $500 for just glass and pick up the Viper pst, but I've read that the reticle is too small for close up work. I would go with the Leupold VXR patrol it is 1.25-4x, has a daylight bright dot in the center of the crosshairs, it has a motion sensor illumination control as eell as auto shutoff and most people report good glass for the money and years worth of life on one battery. I've heard these can be had for around $450-500. They're also fairly lightweight. |

Edit: Other that the 1.25 low mag the leupold has everything I want. |

It's not, but the reticle is super bolt, IMO, if it's the optic I'm thinking of. |

I just found out that I can get a trijicon accupower for just a little bit more than a pst, so I think I'm going that route. Now all I need to decide is whether I want red or green for the segmented circle reticle. Just so you're aware, that's not any brighter than the SWFA SS 1-4 I looked through, at least, based on pictures I've seen of it. |

If so get the green I found this to be an issue with my choice of red illumination Edit: post above mine is accurate , I just looked through it in the sky (sunny day here) red tint to it on blue sky. Also I only recommended the Leupold because it was close to previously mentioned budget. For what it's worth I would have recommended the Accupower despite it not being a true 1x as well. (Distortion is noticeable in the very edges, doesn't bother me unless I move the rifle while looking through the optic.) |

Couldn't tell you, I have the red one. I imagine it wouldn't with most of the forest near me being a dark green vs, the brighter green of the reticle but you might have brighter greens in your locale. |

I'm on the wet side of WA, so it's probably very similar to AK. The green is interesting, mostly because I've only ever owned red illuminated optics. |

I do regret not getting the green I feel like it may washout less. |
