how much eye relief is need on a rifle scope. I'm looking as a couple of the Cabelas branded scopes for my AR-15

That's up to you. I like Acog ta31 eye relief. For me perfect would be 2 inches max

Eye relief varies by scope.  That information should be in the materials that come with the scope, and can usually also be found online on the manufacturer's website or anywhere they are sold.

For most scopes I've death with on the AR, eye relief is in the 3-3.5" range.

Also, scout scopes have long eye reliefs.

I prefer the 3.5-4" range, but have some down to 2"(which I really don't care for that little) I've had some with less, and that weren't long for my possession.  Some scopes have and eye relief longer at lowest power and shorter at the higher power.  Some, such as my bushnell AR223, retain the same eye relief throughout.

Thanks. Im going to pick up a 3X10 they have on clearance with 4" of eye relief.
