I have been looking into lightweight scopes.  No particular budget in mind yet, variable or fixed, just trying to get an idea of what's out there in the sub 12oz market.   Thus far the standouts have been ACOGs and Leupold VX and Mark AR Series.

Most are a pound.

I just go with the scope I want, then use the Aero ultralight scope mount.

Yep 16/17oz seems to be the most common weight.  I am hoping some folks know of the standouts such as the VXs and ACOG.  I agree that the Aero mount is the way to go.  I have one and am very satisfied with it.

Three good Leupold choices depending on your budget.

1.5 - 4X Mark AR Mod 1 Fire Dot SPR reticle - approx $400 - 9.6 oz

1.25 - 4X VX-R Patrol Fire Dot SPR reticle - approx $600 - 11.5 oz

1 - 6X Vx6 CM-R2 reticle - approx $1200 - 14.6 oz

You can also get the basic VX-6 1-6 without the lighted reticle and it is about an ounce less.

Most Leupold scopes of modest magnification, especially those with one inch main tubes, are well under one pound.  Some are under 10 ounces.  Leupold uses lead free glass which helps a lot with weight.  So does one inch main tube design.

TA33 in a Larue mount is around 9oz I think.
