I am new to the platform and new to the forum so bear with me on a basic question. I am pleased with the zero on my Vortex red dot sight but if I remove it to clean or maintain the rifle do I need to zero again after I reinstall it?  Thanks.

You shouldn't have to, but it usually depends on the quality of the mount its on. Best way to test if it will return to zero is to remove it and reinstall it in the same spot and shoot. See if zero has shifted.

Unless you're using a quality QD mount, you will almost definitely have to re zero. It may not be off by much, but it will be off. There's a reason why only the top guys in the undsutry guarantee zero upon removal and re installation. (LaRue, BOBRO for example)

DO you have an absolute cowitness with your irons?  You can remove the red dot and check with your irons after re-installing.

Otherwise, cheap mounts may or may not return to zero...no guarantees.  Most will probably be close enough for minute-of-man at close ranges but nothing precise.

Curious why you'd need to remove your sight to clean your rifle.
