I'm looking at buying a Vortex Strike Eagle as my scope but now stuck between LaRue or Warne single piece mount not sure what model to look at... Main uses are 3gun and varmint with the occasional longer range shots

Doesn't matter.

Both are great companies, with great products.  Warne still supports a lot of 3gun.  LaRue used to, and supports enough that I give that a lot of credibility.

You might also consider the Vortex mount.

Personally, I have a LaRue mount on everything I own (that isn't a Badger ring).... but again, you cant go wrong.

Check the needed eye relief... my go-to mount is the LaRue SPR-E for any long eye relief optic.

The main difference you need to worry about between the various models is length.  The SPR-E length mounts are usually long enough to set up for NTCH position.  The regular SPR length mounts will put the ocular of the scope somewhat closer.  It comes down to how you shoot and what kind of positions you use.  The next item for consideration is whether to go QD or not.  If you switch optics around a lot on the same rifle, QD may have a purpose for you.  If not, don't worry about it.

If your not worried about QD, Im going to suggest using an Aero Precision mount.  Light, strong, price is decent.
