I decided I would benefit from a FFP scope and have narrowed down to 2 brands, Primary Arms and Vector Optics. My budget is around $200 and is reflected in the poll I will be posting.

PA only has one scope in my price range, it's the 4-14x44 FFP mil dot.

Vector Optics has a few. If you would recommend one model over the others please explain. (accidently put Vortex on the poll.  Disregard and pretend it says Vector)

Here is my rigg and purpose:
20" .223 wylde AR
Target shooting - 100 yards, possible 200 - 300 yards down the road (I might have a new rigg and scope by then)

My rules:
No bashing the scope, company, myself or the thread (keep it professional)
Do not suggest another scope unless It is through a PM.

Failure to abide by the above rules will prove you are not intelligent enough to read and will forfeit my acknowledgment of you as a worthy source of knowledge.

Poll to come soon.

At that price point, I'd go with the Primary Arms. Once you get into the Viper line with Vortex, that's when things change IMO. Really, either scope will serve you just fine at 100-300 yards. The PA scope was featured on the Military Arms Channel as the best budget scope to make it to 1000 yards.

At that budget I'd take a look at the PA optic.  Vortex makes a ton of great optics, but nothing that I would want at a $200 price point.  Good glass is expensive, but the PA mil/mil can at least get you started out.

PA is the way to go for $200. I have both and love the ACSS reticle on my fixed 6X. I've used it on a 16" carbine from 100-600 yards you can't go wrong with either.

I'll agree with my short armed friend here.

The models you mention are from Vector Optics not Vortex.

Oops, I meant Vector Optics.  That was a typo.  I updated the Post but can not change the poll.

Is there a moderator that can help me out?

For now - IN THE POLL VOTING FOR VORTEX IS A VOTE FOR VECTOR.  PLEASE IGNORE MY TYPO

My bad. I was on the train using my Ipad and had not had any coffee yet.

For the money it's hard to beat Primary's 4-14 FFP. I have one on my Aero M5 build. Works great.

I had originally decided on the PA 4-14x44 FFP and then saw the Vectors on Amazon while shopping for a discounted PA (needle in a hay stack).  I don't know much about the Vector brand, hence the post.  But it looks like the majority favors the PA, at least so far.

Looks like I will be adding the Primary Arm scope to my setup.  Thanks for the input guys.

Stay Cool.

Primary Arms.  When it breaks they will fix it.

After a lot of thought* I decided that for some situations, including really long distance shooting, an AO scope makes sense (10-28x50 for 600-1000 yards or longer, 2-9x40 for bench rest shooting at different distances within 200ish yards, maybe).  However, simpler is better and I started thinking that most AO scopes are more tacticool** than useful  since anything under 600 yards could be had with a 10x and offset sights or a flex sight  (over 75 yards = 10x scope, under 75 yards = sights/reflex). I probably won't ever be shooting past 300 yards so I figured a 10x would be more than enough (I would rather have to much scope rather then to much rifle).

I finally decided on the Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 mil-mil.  The scope is pretty impressive and I a very happy with it for $200 (on sale at MidwayUSA with free shipping when I purchased).  The only thing I m not impressed with is the eye relief at 3.5" but since it's only a .223 I will make due.  I will be doing a post about my build and will have some review notes there.  Simple, affective, aesthetic, great company, what is not to love.  Now to decide on a reflex sight in the $100 range.  I'm thinking either a Bushnell First strike, sightmark mini shot or Primary arms PARRS02.  I'm leaning away from the sightmark but will probably get which ever I can find on sale.

*(I was going to purchase from Amazon, I paid off my store card and they dropped my limit to $100 the same day the payment processed so I couldn't use that to purchase either scope. I am still pissed off and stopped buying from them.  So I had time to think abut my choice since I had to come up with another $250.)

**(don't get offended, I am allowed to have my opinion)

The picture doesn't do the scope justice but here is one anyway.

I ended up sending the Bushnell back and purchasing a SWFA 12x42 SS Mil-Quad Reticle.  Very nice scope.

Why did you send the Bushnell back?

I'd pickup a vortex..I have yet to handle a vortex optic at any price point that did not have crystal clear glass and you get a lifetime warranty from a great company.
If for some reason you don't want the vortex. Primary arms is the way to go for that price range..another great company with excellent optics for the money. Can't go wrong with eitger . I am bias toward vortex though.

- bad eye relief
- unlivable parallax error at 100 yards an beyond
- chromatic distortion (orange/red tint in the upper right corner, pretty noticeable)

But mostly the parallax error.  it was around 2 inches up and 2 inches to the right with very little head movement.

The SWFA is nice.  PA and Vortex were my other 2 picks but I am glad I got the SWFA. After more research about Vector I decided there are better options.
