Okay so I'm nearing the final selection for my first build and am planning on getting the BCM BFH 16" Midlength Upper w/ a 13" KMR.
I would like to mount a front sight on the barrel just before the muzzle device and was looking at the Vltor Sight Tower in particular. However, I emailed BCM to see if this combination would work and was told that "it may not be possible" due to the taper on government profiles after the gas block. They gave me an SBR option and told me to look into getting a custom barrel from ADCO. So here are my questions: 1. Will this set-up work the way it is and maybe BCM didn't want to say that it would in case it didn't? I'm not sure how long the sight is, and it is supposed to attach to a barrel of 0.75" diameter. 2. If not are there other good options for barrel mounting the front sight past the gas block location? Right now I'm considering either getting a 9" handguard and using the Vltor as a gas block or a 15" handguard to mount a BUIS at the front. However, I'd prefer not to give up accuracy or sight radius for the other. P.S. I'm ruling out getting a rifle-length gas system on a 16" barrel due to reliability concerns. |
| You are talking about making a mock dissipator. Yes, they are typically made with a low profile gas block at the mid-length or carbine length position under rifle-length handguards, with the front sight base in the rifle length position. They are typically made with gov't-profile barrels like what you have. The gas block journal is 0.75", and the barrel forward of there should be 0.725". Yes, you can just tighten down the clamp-on gas block onto the barrel and loc-tite it, but if you want to get a better fit, buy some shim stock and shim the barrel 0.25" under the clamp-on front sight base. Good luck -- let us know how it comes out. |
