Vortex clamp on with 2" offset. I've had QD mounts come off during matches. The last QD that came off was a ADM Recon-x. I just dont trust QDs any more. Quoted:

| I got mine this morning. I got it mounted and it's seems pretty nice. It's very close, if not completely, true 1x. Shooting both eyes open should be a breeze. I won't get a chance to shoot it until Friday :( but I'll let everyone know how it goes after that. First impressions are that this should be an awesome scope. |

I've got ADM QD mounts holding my optics, bipods, lights and even a VFG. Never had one come loose. Maybe it wasn't adjusted correctly to begin with? |

I've also had an ADM Recon-X QD mount come loose. I'm sure I mounted it tight initially. But this was after a lot of use. Now I generally avoid QD mounts from any manufacturer. I also check my QD mounts for tightness from time to time. HighSpeedSteel |
| I hear the variable vortex scopes are the best or darn close to 1x as any out on the market. like an RDS, true? anyone have any other words of encouragement? also, whats the major difference between the strike eagle and the viper PST model? I'm curious bc I'm looking for a x1-4 or x1-6 for a new upper. thanks. |

Sorry for the crappy i phone pics, but wanted to get some up for you guys. Just had enough time to snap a few pics. Should have chose better shots but it was too hot out and I was just trying to get a few quick ones! Shot from under my patio, facing east, around 2:30pm in AZ 1st 2 are my Razor HD gen II for somewhat of a comparison eta - illum looks better than the photos show http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag86/runngunnaz/forum%20post/Vortex%20reticle/IMG_5970_zpsjgnhmtl2.png http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag86/runngunnaz/forum%20post/Vortex%20reticle/IMG_5969_zpsojtr20cs.png http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag86/runngunnaz/forum%20post/Vortex%20reticle/IMG_5971_zpsp9w3qttd.png http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag86/runngunnaz/forum%20post/Vortex%20reticle/IMG_5977_zpsjgodgaff.png http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag86/runngunnaz/forum%20post/Vortex%20reticle/IMG_5976_zpstjxloble.png http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag86/runngunnaz/forum%20post/Vortex%20reticle/IMG_5974_zps3qy6w3nm.png http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag86/runngunnaz/forum%20post/Vortex%20reticle/IMG_5975_zpsxeodpnxw.png http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag86/runngunnaz/forum%20post/Vortex%20reticle/IMG_5973_zpsbcrh3pog.png I'm noticing some edge distortion in the first two images of the benchmark Razor HD 1-6x, whereas it looks better controlled on the Strike Eagle. Very interesting. The Razor resolves the image a bit better resulting in excellent clarity (as it should), while there's slightly more color contrast in the Strike Eagle as if the glass is slightly polarized. Nevertheless, still very impressive for a sub-$400 scope. I realize that these are internet photos and will not compare to first hand observations, but it still offers a good idea of what to expect. I think a lot of people are going to be very happy. |
| That reticle is just cool...can't wait for mine to get here. Will compare to my Bushnell SMRS 1-6.5 SFP BTR-2. Although I can say that the Bushnell actually seems to undermagnify at 1x. I noticed it at the range at a distance and I actually turned the power ring up a touch to compensate. |
| I have always been a classic crosshair guy when it comes to scopes. This is my first AR-BDC reticle. I like it, so far. The reticle is very crisp, illuminated or not. After 6 years of 3 gun without any BDC, this will be very nice for those 500 yard shots. I am shooting it tomorrow. I'll report back. |
| Any Viper PST 1-4 owners out there that have the Strike Eagle also? Just got a 1-4 and wondering how they compare. I have the 2.5-10x32 and 4-16x50 PST's and love them. The 1-4 is my first lower power Vortex . Now the Strike Eagle has really piqued my interest. |

Got mine this morning. Mounted it in a Vortex Branded BOBRO mount. I have had great success with them returning to zero after moving them around. Just through it on something to see how she would feel on a rifle. First impressions. For the money not sure how you can beat it. Turrets are pretty tactile and audible. The Power ring is about perfect, not super tight and not loose. Its monsooning outside right now but glass seems really good in the low light. Should be great in the sun. Eye relief is pretty generous and somewhat forgiving should you not get a proper cheek weld initially. Did not have a chance to test out the reticle brightness, since its pretty cloudy. Until I hit the range my initial impression is if you wan't a 1-6x and you don't want to break the bank and a great warranty. Then this should be on your list to try. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z302/rescueswimmer1/strikefire_zpsezczgucy.jpg Do you have a link to that mount? |

I've had mine out a couple of times now. I sighted it in at 100 and went hunting. Very clear glass, good resolution and very little distortion on the edges. The eye piece shadow ring is very thin like that of more expensive scope. The eye relief is perfect and is more than enough when at 6x. Good firm clicks on the turrets. The diopter focus is firm to move, but not difficult (good thing). The illumination is fantastic. I had it out yote hunting last night through dusk. There is a power setting for every type of light. The reticle is crisp, illuminated or not.
The only negatives are very minor. This scope was designed for 3 gun, so precise shooting is not the easiest. The 1/2MOA clicks and thick reticle lines make it difficult to get very small groups. The line thickness is probably worse, because i have a bad astigmatism. The above negatives are no big deal. This is a 3 gun scope, not a F-class small group scope. For 3 gun it is more precise than i can shoot. lol. I did have 1 group at .64MOA. Not bad. I was able to get 1MOA regularly (6 groups) with hand loads and 1.6MOA with AE223 55gr FMJ (6 groups). That was off a wood v block. I can get better groups off of a sand bag. This weekend, i will zero it for 50/200. Then shoot 200/300/500&600 to check the hash marks in the reticle. After that, it will be a 3 gun set up only. |
