Anyone have any experience with the Aimpoint TNP mount? I am using the QRP now. I don't like the big knob but it is handy.

Art. No. 12197

Torsion Nut Picatinny (MIL-STD 1913) Mount.
Fits Comp M4 and Ring Base & Top. This is not a Quick Release mount.
Screws and Allen key included.

It looks like just what it is, IMO. Should be a "no surprises" prospect. That said, I am a Bobro fan.

Why run this when the QRP is available.

No big knob on the side. More permanent.

I use the QRP on my PRO (along with that forward adapter), being I'd like to pull it off if I really needed to. My Aimpoint 3x magnifier is in a LaRue mount, being I really didn't want/like the twist mount. Again, easy to remove if I needed to yank it off.

No experience with this.  For a reason

That doesn't look very "permanent" to me.  If you want permanent get a LaRue or Bobro.  If you don't want to spend that type of money, stick with the QRP

Thanks for the replies. I am going to look at the Larue and Bobro. The TNP  is quite pricey for what it is.

I use a LaRue mount. GDI makes a nice one as well.

I figured that much... my point was that a QD like large/bobro will never come off unless you purposely take it off.  That thing on the other hand... will probably come loose on its own eventually.

Only reason for something to loosen by itself is incorrect installation... namely Loctite. Sorry, but all screws on optics/mounts should be done in blue (red if you are really sure you aren't removing it), and you really won't have issues.

You don't Loctite QD mounts. If I were installing an optic that I'd never remove, why have that huge knob hanging off the rifle?

The QRP has never came loose on my AR, so it is a moot point. The original question that was raised was why this verses the QRP. Some people don't want QD, and that one isn't.

This. I thought I'd try something non QD. I have QRP's. The TNP looks to be fairly uncluttered and I don't think it will come loose if I use a little blue Loctite.  I have not made up my mind yet if it's worth fooling with but, it is an Aimpoint product.  Thanks again for the replies.

For non qd it will work great.

Degrease, blue loctite, witness mark ... It will never come off accidentally

I prefer the QRP.  Never had an issue with it in real world combat applications.  It's not the most visually appealing (if that matters to you), but it works and it already comes with the optic.  No need to fix IMO.
