So I have been in the dark for the past few years with EOTech sights. I used to have a 516 model site with the cr123a batteries and liked it but sold it and the rifle (I think it all happened in 2011). Anyways I see the 518 is their new model with the riser built in, qd mount and no nv capability. Im also considering the EXPS2-0 model and as far as I can tell the main difference is weight due to the one having just one battery vs two.
I know aimpoints tend to get superb battery life so am I crazy in thinking the 518 would be the better of the two due to the battery life alone? I know the EXPS weighs less and that is definately a plus but it is something I am not considering at the moment. I merely want to know if its worth getting the 518 over the EXPS2 due to having better battery life or is it worth getting the EXPS2 since it uses cr123a batteries? Im also trying to find reviews/problems with the 518 and am finding none... I guess its pretty new and that may be why. Ive been searching for information the past few days and havent really found much concerning the new models. Thank you! |

I had a 517 (AA) and an EXPS 2-0 (CR123)...I much preferred the EXPS. Better battery life and a bit lighter in the weight dept. In the end...landed up shedding them both for a red dot... If anything they should get the same battery life.. no? Or better if you use lithium batteries in the AA model. Well now I am really confused... |

For some reason the AA model chewed through batteries faster, even when just sitting in the gun cabinet. Nothing crazy, but it was noticeable. All in all...I guess I just like the EXPS line better. Smaller, lighter, takes a single battery (I would buy Streamlight batteries for it BTW...good price on them online). |
