I'm assembling parts for a build and thinking about sight systems. I'm leaning towards a lightweight, non-illuminated scope and a small reflex red dot in an offset mount to the side of the scope. If you've used one of these offset red dot setups, do you like it? Or is it one of those things that looks cool but isn't very useful?
With a sight to the side of the bore, it seems like you could only have one distance at which the bullet's path and the point of aim will intersect. What is the optimum distance to sight in this set up, and what is the maximum range that it's effective to? Thanks for the input. |

They're useful if you have a need or use for them and work very well.
The bullet doesn't know the difference between the top of the barrel and the side, it will intersect the same as an optic mounted on the top, obviously, depending on where you zero it. This is assuming utilize the offset optic as it is intended, you rotate the gun so sight is above the bore(same as a top mounted optic) zero same range as you would any RDS sight, i prefer 50 |
