snagged an rmr on amazon the otherday for a great price, i got a dual illuminated version with a 7.0 moa amber dot
thinking about selling it and getting a different version that may suit my needs better
my questions:
1. it seems like the diode is on the base, if dirt gets on/in the base this will stop the sight from functioning, no?
2. the 7.0 moa dot seems small, but ive never used a red dot on a handgun before, what size do most recommend?
3. (forgive my ignorance) will this sight still function at night?
4. Why all the hate on amber?
5. is a led version more favored?

1. Maybe... haven't stuck my Dual-Illum RMR into the muck yet.
2. 7 MOA is a good size for pistols. I'd say the 7 (or larger) or the 12.x triangle would be good options.
3. Yes - but washout can be an issue
4. It's not green or red... (I have an amber triangle, as it was a good buy on amazon. Only had it a week or so... my current thought is that it will always be run with irons)
5. Yes, the washout on the D-I RMR's is an issue.

thjanks  man, would still love to hear form more people

2.5. would the rmr be a bad choice on a carry gun because lint could get in the diode hole?

Don't trust a RMR 100% for a carry gun.

That is why you need buis also

for and handgun I recommend the 6.0moa dot

At least a half a dozen of my older Cop buddies are using this sight on their guns.  The all attended Suarez's course in either the North East or in S/AZ.  I'm putting one on my CORE so I'll see what co-witness does.  I have an MRDS on it now and the results are next to fantastic, but no co-witness.  However, 7 out of 10 hits at 50 meters standing slow fire is pretty darn good on First practice.
