I've had a few scopes but not too many, nothing serious. I've been shooting red dots mostly for the past 5 years. I'm looking into a DMR for my collection, and have settled on an LMT MWS in 308. I have read a bit about the necessity of investing in a quality scope. I'll need to wait a while before I have real $ to spend on a big optic, so for my first one, I'm looking to keep it under $1K, preferably a lot under.

Most of my shooting will be from the bench at 100 - 200 yards. I'd like there to be enough magnification to shoot under 1 MOA. A guy let me shoot his MWS at the range, his optic was 12x and I shot very well with it. One thing I didn't like was that the eye box was really small.

I have an idea of what I want, but think that I might want too much. I'd like a tactical reticle, a constant eye relief, a good eye box/exit pupil at higher magnification, and not too heavy. How's that for a tall order?

I'm considering:

SWFA HD Super Sniper 10X

SWFA Super Sniper 3-15 HEAVY!!!

Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12

Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14

What is a good eye box at higher magnification (obviously the exit pupil reduces at magnification)? I see 2.8mm to 3.3mm a lot.
I'm not married to these options, and Open to suggestions.

I'll bet those are top notch scopes! They sure look awesome, but out of my price range right now. Might be the best to save, and buy a couple years from now.

While it tops out at 9x I really like my Leupold VX-R 3-9x40mm Patrol.  At about $600 delivered, it has an extraordinary combinatioj of features.  30mm main tube, yet only about 13.5 ounces.  You are not likely to find a lighter 30 mm tube mid range variable.  Low profile, accurate, repeatable, true milrad turrets and Firedot TMR milrad reticle.  Motion activated illumination.  .3 mil dot, about 1 MOA, is very sharp with good range of intensity for darkness to full noon sunlight.  I can shoot MOA with it.  It may be hard to shoot finer groups, though, without a fine, dedicated target reticle, but that is not DMR.

How bright is the dot at 3X? Is it bright enough to use the BAC on?

The dot intensity is completely independent of magnification.  It can be as intensely bright as you need  for noon day sun, or as dim as barely visible for bedroom night use.

If you mean Bindon Aiming Concept, yes.  I have a Leupold Alumina front lens cap on it.  I actually use it BAC or occluded eye inside my home with the cap down.  Works like an Aimpoint in that the motion detection turns it on when you pick it up.   The dot is a true red color and is very well formed, completely round.  It is projected through a fiber optics tube in the turret housing, so no bulge on the eyepiece.  At the range I can get within 2-3" of point of aim out to 25 yards shooting both eyes open and cap down.  Then flip the cap up if beyond 25.  The turrets are not zero stop but are a full 6 mils per rotation and can get you out to 600 yards without passing zero.  Very versatile scope.  Someone accustomed to ACOG and BAC should be able to use it both eyes open and cap up, but I prefer to close the cap at close range.
