Hi all

I am choosing a second optics for my AR15 - this is my first AR, I am very new to the platform. I have a very good Eotech so I'd say I am fully covered in terms of home defense, etc. I don't do any competition shooting, tactical training, and I don't hunt. My range is 100 yards and it is unlikely I will get an access to anything beyond 100 yards. I also know that my Eotech is more than sufficient for 100 yards. However, I would like to do some precision shooting with this rifle - not just hitting the target consistently, but punch paper for better groups. I am telling all of this because, it seems, the first question the members ask - what is the purpose for your new optics.

So, I am looking for an AR-friendly scope on a budget. I like the idea of fixed power scopes because it seems I get way more glass and quality for my $$. I have two in mind and I am open to any suggestions - I am looking at Primary Arms 6X with their illuminated system, and a Weaver classic K-series 6X. I have a scout version of the Weaver K-series for my modified Mosin, the one with fixed 4X power. It is an awesome little scope and it is in fact made in Japan. So I may be slightly biased for Weaver, illumination or not. I just slightly hesitant because they call the 6X Weaver a "hunting" scope, so I am not sure how will it behave on the AR platform. I also plan to use the Warne QD rings with whatever I get.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. As I said above, I am very open minded about the options - I will be glad to consider some new ones, as well.

Based on your criteria I recommend either a flip-to-side magnifier or trade the EOTech for a low power variable in 1-4x or 1-6x.

If you are ONLY going to shoot paper at 100 yards with the scope, and use the EOTech for everything else, the Weaver K-6 Classic is a good choice.

But you might do better with a little more power for that kind of constant distance fixed target only paper shooting.  The SWFA 10x-42 has a great reputation here for its combination of value and performance, although I do not own one personally.  And you could use it at longer ranges, if you ever wanted to because of the milrad turrets and reticle.  You will probably want to put whatever scope you get in QD mounts, to move back and forth with your EOTech.

Take a look at the SWFA SS 6X, great scope for the money.

A fixed six is not a bad fit for a AR, the only thing you loose is some of the upclose speed of a RDS.

I have 3 AR's, all set up with different optics.

#1 Aimpoint T-1. Great up close, ok at 100, past 200 it really starts to slow me down.

#2 Trijicon 1-4. Great up close, great out to about 350 yards. Down side is price.

#3 SWFA 6X. You could take this out to 500ish yards, great eye box, great glass, Mil/Mil, only real downside is size, weight and lack of 1X. You can offset this with a small RDS, or 45 degree irons sights.

This is just my opinion, but I would say the SWFA SS line of glass/durability/tracking is the best out there until you start getting about 1k in price. I have also heard good things about weaver, but have not had any first hand experience.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions!
I did check out the SWFA, but I really wanted to be disciplined with my budget this time - so, I did go with the Weaver 6X.
