I do not know if this has been asked before.
I have zeroed in my SWFA scope with Larue QD mounts on my 20" 5.56 at 100 yds. However, when I release and mount the same scope to my 18" .308, why do I have to zero again which was previously zeroed in? Both rifles using match cartridges. Am I doing something wrong? Wasting my ammo. Please help. Thanks. |

| Two rifles set up exactly the same of the same caliber will not have the same point of aim and point of impact. Having a quality q/d mount will increase the chances of being sighted in when remounting a scope on the same place on the same rifle. Buy another scope or remember how many clicks of adjustment for windage and elevation when switching between rifles. |

Here's an option. If you can confirm the QD mount is repeatable (Larue should be good) and you are mounting it in the same slot each time, you may not have to re-zero. Just make note of the zero shift from the 5.56 to the 7.62 rifle for future reference. So, decide which rifle you want the scope to be the primary sight for. Zero to that rifle and set the turrets to "0" on that rifle. Then, when you switch, re-zero but don't reset the turrets so you can count and record the clicks. From that point on when you plop it on your secondary rifle, just dial in the correction. You could even use a paint pen to mark the 2nd rifle's zero point.
If you have trouble deciding which rifle to make primary...think if the SHTF and you had to bug out and could only take 1 rifle, which one would it be? ...and save up for a dedicated scope for each. I have a similar issue in that I have an MRP upper with multiple barrels. Primary is the 10.5" barrel set up with an Aimpoint in a Larue QD mount for defense. I also have had a 16" stainless match grade barrel for awhile and just now can finally afford to get a dedicated magnified scope for it. Of course I'll test it, but with a high quality QD mount, it should return to zero after each swap... |
