I have some junk Butler Creek flip ups, they sux , dont fit right and tore around the ring.
What is a good alternative. I have a SWFA SS 3x9 - 42 |

I've used Butler Creek flip up caps for decades. I don't abuse my rifles but don't baby them either. They've seen a lot of hunting use, sometimes in pretty rugged conditions, on quite a few different scopes on bolt guns and some semi-autos too. They have held together very well. No failure on any of them.
I'd say that OP's experience is atypical as I doubt he abuses his equipment. Use the chart, get a replacement cap and roll on. If the cap broke, it served its intended purpose -- protected the rifle from some sort of serious impact. That can happen. Consider it cheap insurance. |
