I have some junk Butler Creek flip ups, they sux , dont fit right and tore around the ring.

What is a good alternative.

and then I still have to contend with them falling apart. The one I did have fit great but the outer edge ripped from the side. I have no idea how or why, gun is a safe queen that sees limited bench duty.

Honestly it doesn't matter a whole lot either because the times where the lens could get damaged is when you are using it. Here's a link to the Butler Creek scope caps and here's a link for a generic bikini style lens cover.

I've used Butler Creek flip up caps for decades.  I don't abuse my rifles but don't baby them either. They've seen a lot of hunting use, sometimes in pretty rugged conditions,  on quite a few  different scopes on bolt guns and some semi-autos too.  They have held together very well.  No failure on any of them.

I'd say that OP's experience is atypical as I doubt he abuses his equipment.   Use the chart, get a replacement cap and roll on.

If the cap broke, it served its intended purpose -- protected the rifle from some sort of serious impact. That can happen.  Consider it cheap insurance.
