With irons, what is generally considered good grouping at 100. I just got mine sighted and got 8 inches. I haven't used irons in years and I know practice will get smaller groups, but I never expect 1 inch. I think I'll be happy at 4 inches.

These questions always come down to the question of what, precisely, the AR15 weapon platform is made to do.

It is made to shoot .22 caliber sized bullets at very high speed and be accurate to kill man out to around 600 yards.

If you expect actually to hit anything at 600 yards, you are going to need some serious optics, which begins to defeat the purpose of the AR15.

If you are able consistently to deliver rounds on a man sized target at 100 yards, in a six inch group, that's good enough.

Of course, you can spend a lot of money to get a super-accurate AR platform rifle if your interest is in precision rifle style competition.

If I were you, I'd put a quality red dot optic on yours and call it a day.

Prone or well supported, 4" groups at 100y are your goal. Its doable with practice, maybe a little instruction, so keep at it.

No red dot. This is my shtf rifle that I can afford to stockpile ammo for. My other ar is 6.8 and ammo is not cheap. Irons only on this 5.56. So, if 6 inches is good enough, I'm not far from it now. If I can get 4 I'll be really happy. Thanks for replying.

With cheap ammo and irons, 8" is pleanty good.
