Picked up a 511 some time back from a gunshow and can't figure out the batteries. It came with 6 AG9 batteries in it which didn't fit well. The booklet in the case says it take either N or AA but the battery compartment is too small even for the N battery. I tried 1/3 N batteries and they fit well and it works. Is there a 511 thats supposed to take the 1/3Ns?

Thanks,
Jeff

I used to have a 511. If memory serves correct, they only took N batteries, which is also what my old one took. 512's and 552's are the ones that take AA batteries. I sold my 511 though. I never did like the short battery life of 300 hours.

I have a box of Duracell's here.  Size "N" 1.5 volt.  They fit and work.

Does it have a S/N and a QR code on the bottom? It certainly doesn't look fake, though. Oh, and that isn't a 511, that's a 551 since it has night vision compatibility. However, it should still take N batteries. Show us a pic with the battery cover off and attempting to install an N battery, too. If you can.

I think you got taken for a knock off, a little hard to tell for sure from the pictures.  I saw one in a LGS which had a goofy battery compartment compared to my 511 & 512's.  The one in the LGS had a NV button also, upon closer inspection it was not a holographic sight but a red dot sight with a different projector.  I could tell by looking inside the bottom through the glass.   The sight in the gun shop took odd ball batteries and not N or AA's.  Another thing I noticed, the knock off had a slight tint on the front glass whereas a real E O Tech has clear glass.  The tint is used on reflex red dot sights and the tint is used to reflect the image.

I just looked at the rear rubber button cover on my 511.  There is a circle between the up and down buttons but the circle does not have the NV printing.  The screws are also different on your than on my 511.   Call E O Tech to get verification as I know they have tried to stop the import of these.

I really don't think the dealer knew he has a knock off as it was priced $450.

The thumb screw is different than the 551 I had, and the cut-outs for the windage and elevation should both be circular. Also, the screws on the hood should be TORX, not Allen/hex.

Looks counterfeit to me.

Click on " Recognizing Counterfeits" near the bottom. It has pictures of real and fake optics.

Looks off to me.  An authentic 551 should have no problem accepting N type batteries.

I guess I'm stuck with a fake EOTech lol

The sight is pretty clear and the dot and circle are clear.

Wonder if it holds zero...we'll see

Just curious what you paid for the fake?   It might hold zero on a 22 rimfire or something Airsoft.

$200.  I'm going to put it on an AR and see what it does.
