EOTech Optics, with fading holographic display (brightness) issues.  The range staff contacted EOTech Company and were told by a customer representative that the gas inside the holographic display needed to be recharged.  The representative also stated that this something that would need to be done every 5 to 6 years during the life of the optic. The optics manufactured in 2008 are still under warranty, therefore the service is covered. However, optic models from 2007 and older are no longer under warranty and would be charged $79.00 for any needed maintenance and to refill the holographic display with the required gas for the continued operation of the optic.  The main concern is the potential for failure with the display during use by xxxxxxs in the field.

The gas leaks out sometimes. They just refill it. Yea it's a known issue but I don't think it happens to every eotech. Just the unlucky few.

Also, the warranty is only 2 years.

I just had one of my XPS units done and have the other there now. They faded to the point of being unusable. Both manufactured in late 09. It was done for free but cost me shipping. 10 bucks each.  I love the Eotech reticle, sight picture, and everything else, but that is a chink in the design. There is no preventative measures to counter this as far as I know. Just one day, boom, it doesn't work. I have two Pros and they seem to be very reliable, but I just don't like the single dot in a tube.

Nitrogen purge is leaking. Had it happen to 2 553's that were out of warranty. They just told me to fill a new online warranty registration & send them in. Only took about a week & they didn't charge me for either optic.

I have had nothing but great experience with their customer service.

(Oh yea, & thanks to asshole on the EE who assured me, nothing was wrong with the optic.)

I could never get into the EOtech sight optic. I have used them @ work but always preferred ACOG or Aimpoint. This seals the deal on never wanting one on a personal weapon. Thanks for the responses.
