SO, awhile back I picked up an ARMS #40 BUIS. I have never owned one of these, and my question is, the 'J' shaped release comes all the way out, separates from the sight. The sight is nearly new, or looks new, so it surprises me a bit. Is this just a training issue on a Gen 1 BUIS or should it be retained somehow by a clip? I see no notch for a clip to reside in, thus my question. The sight seems bomber in every way except this - seems like a possibly major flaw in the field when using optics. Can anyone advise me on this? It kind of spoils my opinion of an otherwise seemingly excellent rear BUIS.

Are you talking about the retainer that you pull back to allow the sight to flip up?

I don't think that's supposed to come out... I've never tried actually removing them, but I haven't had a problem with them coming off on either my ARMS #40 or #40L.

Are you saying that the release can be pulled OUT of the entire fixture? By pulling it to the right, you remove the clip?

I had a #40 and never had this issue.

Yes. It is a 'J' shaped rod that holds the sight down. Pulls out to the right. I figured it shouldn't come out - just can't see how it SHOULD look. What retains it? I see no provision for a clip. 1st time I pulled on it it came right out in my hand. I got a pretty good deal on it and what I think is an early, unmarked KAC folding front sight, but I just can't utilize it like this. Any pics of what retains it?

I need a pic to show that it pulls out? I'd like to see a pic of how it SHOULD look.

If we see a photo we can better answer if it is FUBAR, counterfeit, or fixable.

I don't really want to dig my rifle out of the back of everything (as in take everything out) when I can look at yours and tell you what's up.

But it is your thread... have it how you want it!  Good luck!

I will try and dig it out tomm. I hurt my back and have been basically immobilized the last couple days, so sorry if I was grumpy. I thought it would be a simple question. All I have is a cell-phone camera at present, another reason I don't like posting pics. Thanks for the help.

Mine does not move out of the base. There is a small cut out on the left side of the retaining arm, it looks like maybe there is a detent  inside the base to hold the arm on. Hope this helps OP.

I inadvertantly bought a fake ARMS #40 that did that.  My legit ARMS #40's DO NOT.  You may have ended up with a knockoff.

More than likely a Chicom knock off.
The knock offs don't come close to the quality of the real ones.
But they do look alike. including markings.

Not only should the retainer not come out but it should also be spring loaded with the spring holding it forward. Is your's spring loaded?

Evilbay. I will try and dig the sights out later. Back is better but still bothers me to do much. Wish I knew WTH I did to it. Thanks for the info. I will post pics when I get them. Also got a KAC foldup front sight same auction. No markings on it, but looks to be quality - gold circlip and wired retainer.

ETA: I took pics, will post soon as I can, but I think it's genuine. It not only has the spring mentioned, but now that I look, there is a tiny slot where I'm guessing the detent is supposed to go. I guess I'll contact ARMS and see if they will fix it. I'll have pics in a little bit. Still didn't find any markings on the KAC front sight, but it's been used - looks real to me. Maybe sterile?
