I'm purchasing an Eotech xps3-0 holographic red dot sight, and was a little bit confused about which one is the newest generation. This may be nothing, but why are the little pieces sticking out of the 123 battery cover different? Thank you.

The XPS3-0 is an older model than the EXPS3-0

There are only three differences, that I'm aware of, between the two models.

1) The EXPS has the control buttons on the left side instead of the rear as on the XPS.

2) The EXPS has a taller base than the XPS for better co-witness.

3) The EXPS has a QD factory mount. To get QD mount with the XPS you'll need to go aftermarket mount.

Other than that they are functionally the same. Which one to choose is personal preference.

The EXPS is, IMO, your best bet: comes with the mount and you will like the side mounted controls...especially if you put a magnifier behind it someday.

+1 and that mount rises it to a 1/3 co-witness.
