Been looking for a scope for my 20" rifle and came across this Burris scope, has anyone used this type of setup and do they have any suggestions
Might be nice to mount it well forward on the receiver.
Thanks..

Way too much eye relief, you can't mount it far enough forward on an AR15.

I was looking for another Scout Scope for an Ultimak rail on my Mini-14, and  I like the new Burris 2-7x, as it can be had with a BDC reticle instead of a Duplex. I have a Leatherwood 2-7x on my Ruger Gunsite .308 and it is nice. But as stated above the Burris probably has too much eye relief for the AR, something like 11".

Well, technically i guess you could... I found this here on arfcom:

Ignoring the severed toe at the bottom, the only way I could see this being stable would be on a monolithic upper.

Uh, almost all rail systems claim to be optically stable, @ least on the upper rails.  On the M4, only the lower rail is not repeatable for zero.  I've thought about one in tip-off mounts co-witnessed w/ the red dot, would be less expensive than some magnifiers.

ETA:  I've seen a troop w/ his Aimpoint mounted on the forward rail, worked fine for him.

The downside is severely restricted field of view compared to a normal eye relief distance (3-4") scope.  I have a Burris 2.7x33 handgun scope (same eye relief as the Scout to my knowledge) mounted out on the barrel of a single shot hunting rifle that has a target receiver sight.  I wanted to be able to retain the receiver sight.  I put the Burris in Talley QD lever mounts and it takes about 5 seconds to remove it to access the Williams iron sight.  But . . . that is the price I pay -- very greatly limited field of view.

Just know that going in.  Look at the specs on field of view at low power and high power compared to a regular scope at the same power settings and same objective size, and make your decision.  I had no choice if I wanted to mount a scope and keep that receiver sight (which used the rear scope mounting holes).  What is your goal? What other sights are you planning to run, if any?  You have a lot of different options.
