So following the laws of supply and demand, we saw AR prices skyrocket, production increase and now prices plummet - the same PSA that sold for $2k a couple of months ago is now $600.

Refresh my memory, did this happen the last two panics with optics as well? And, if so, how long did it lag rifle prices?

I havent seen a optics price hike. I don't think the demand is anywhere like it is with guns/lower/LPK/BCG/ammo.

No one would expect an optics ban.

That makes sense, just wondering if production was increased to keep pace with rifles. I saw some really good deals prior, like when Cabelas had acogs for $600

it's been difficult for the manufacturers to keep up with demand.  Everytime some nutjob does something stupid, everyone runs out and buys in anticipation of bans, and then the new owners want optics to go with their new purchases.

Add to that the fact that manufacturers are playing it pretty close to their chest with inventory, and it's a perfect storm.

My personal pet peeve is manufacturers announcing products long before they are available.

All of the above as well as there's never been a time with such a vast selection of precision rifles, much less ARs. 3 gun competition has upped the optics sales as has the new wave of micro red dots. Toss in military standardization of Aimpoints and Spec Ops running around with tier one optics and everyone is on the playing field vying for sales.

The boomerang affect is that the firearms manufacturers now cater to the optics makers and they, in turn, cater to the ammunition makers. It's one big cycle. It's just a question of who starts the next sales trend.

And FWIW, I'm still reeling from Ruger's 2 year pre-announcement of the P-85. Hard to believe it's been going on for almost 30 years.

Never heard of an optics panic.

It's funny though. If I was going into combat I would rather my enemy have 30 round mags and iron sights than 10 round magazines and optics.
