Looking on buying an acog, let me know your thoughts on the best model .

Check these out, more than enough info

People are going to tell you the ta11 and the ta31 are the frontrunners, i would agree.

Which one would be more precise out of the chevron, donut, or the hoseshoe
3/18/2013 9:51:06 AM EDT
[#3]
well the donut reticle has no defined dot in the middle, so it would not be my first choice as a precision reticle. out of the other 2, the horseshoe is probably easier to shoot more accurately because of the dot in the center. I personally like the red chevron, but alot of people don't.

I always found that the horseshoe was faster, but the chevron was a little more accurate

My personal favorite is the TA33 with the green horseshoe reticle.  My TA31F is great as well, just like the TA33 a little better.  No regrets with either.

they are all great options. I have red horseshoe, green horseshoe, and red chevron, and i have no clear favorite.
as far as the models go, I would recommend the TA33 over all others to start with. it is light, compact, medium magnification, and great eye relief. all around, I see it as the "best" ACOG.

I had the TA33 green horseshoe and hated it.  It's small and light, but the FOV is like looking through a straw, which makes the reticle and everything seem very small.  I now have the TA11 green horseshoe and it rocks.  These two are typically the most highly recommended and there is definitely enough difference in utility for the TA11 to justify the extra size, weight, and cost.  The 4X models have WAY too short eye relief for them to be viable for use when moving/shooting.  There's also not a noticeable difference in the 4x vs the 3.5X.

Ta31RCO-m4 on a carbine.

I was between a TA-33 and a TA-11. On some days I wonder if I should trade my TA-33GH in Larue mount, for a TA11 with an identical reticle  (in larue mount) even if just for a week to see

OP, the TA-33 is shockingly light/compact, and it's a stupid durable 3x battery-less sight. Depending on the purpose of your build, you might like it a lot.

My suggestion is to define your usage and go from there. My experience is from a TA33 with green chevron and the RCOM4 (issued). The TA33 is great and I really like it. The trade off for the light weight and durability is of course the small FOV. But that's a trade off I'm willing to take. The RCOM4 is very limited in eye relief. I am very thankful I've been issued an M4 instead of having to deal with the A4 with the long stock and body armor.

The TA11 series isn't a bad choice as the all around performer. Good eye relief, field of view is decent, 3.5x. Just a little big for my liking. I've always liked the chevron better. Gives a more precise aiming point. Hope this helps.

I think the TA-11 is probably the best compromise for weight / magnification / eye relief.

That being said, you'll be more accurate with crosshairs than any of the fancy red dots that are offered. Look at your intended use before you do anything, there is a perfect answer for what you're wanting to use it for.

TA33G-H was my choice.  I wanted accuracy and speed, with the edge to speed.  I think the chevrons would have the ability to be slightly more precise, but its all shooter-dependent.

Wouldn't trade my TA33 for anything.  Perfect for my Recce.

I'm still trying to figure out where to put my TA33G-H.

I've had it on my 'Go To' 5.56 carbine, but replaced it recently with a SWFA SS HD 1-6X FFP.

I've had it on my suppressed SBR .300 BLK, but replaced it with a Comp M4.

It currently sits on a lightweight Dissipator, but I think I want that gun to use irons instead.

Maybe I'll mount it on this:

+1. I've got two TA33G-H and I'm thinking about getting a third. Hands down my favorite ACOG out of the TA11, TA31 and TA44S.

Thanks for the advise, last question is if I get a used one how can I tell if its stolen?

I love the ta31rco so far. I would only get the RCO if you find a deal, the extra 200-300 over the ta31 retail isn't justified. May check into the other models down the line (to try out longer eye relief models) but this one is worth it. Glass is clear and extra crisp. I have terrible vision on top of that

Looking at a used ta31rco. Contacted trijicon and said it was real, but was bought by the d.o.d. does this mean its stolen?

I got a used TA31 RCO last year with Larue QD mount on the EE. I own a TA01NSN and will tell you the TA31 is one of nicest optics I ever purchased.

I think this guy has written the same thing in every Acog thread but i don't really see where he has owned either an acog or an elcan .  Anyways... I have used the red chevron and the crosshair models.  I personally prefer the crosshairs but the red chevron was good with me too.  I think the crosshairs a little more instinctive but the chevron isn't as crowded.  As far as crosshair models, I definitely would get a BAC model because the black crosshairs can kinda get lost on targets at times and you can just use electrical tape to adjust the brightness if you don't like the bright illumination on sunny days.

It looks like the TA31 has a mounting base for a carrying handle and apears to mount higher on the gun when used with a QD mount. Compared to the TA11 which looks to mount pretty low to the rail. Is that true or is that just an optical illsuion in the pictures? Anyone here have both models and can elaborate on Pros and Cons on either base?

They both use the same mounting base.  Both can be mounted to a carry handle or with the stock (TA51) thumbscrew flattop mount, or aftermarket mounts such as Larue.  I think the TA31 might look like it sits higher to you because the objective is smaller so there's more material showing between the mount and the bell of the objective to make them the same height over bore.

Me personally, I own two NSN models and have used the RCO while deployed. I like the crosshairs of the NSN better, plus I can get them for much cheaper. I would like to get a TA11 someday as I hear they are nice.

My vote...

Ta31f.  Red chevron...

I only have the red chevron...I keep my sights the same across platforms...
