I am confused as to what to zero my AR at, I have American Tactical front and rear sight zeroed at 25 yards. Would it be better do zero at 50 yards? The max I would ever shoot would be 100 yards with iron sights. New to the whole AR world. ETA: Would it be better just to use a 25 yard zero, as that is what I will be shooting mostly at my local range maybe a little over?

Use 50. Just a preference but tends to function better throughout the spectrum.

Really like that video. Gives me the realization of what each zero gives at a certain yardage.

Molon's Zero and Trajectory post

The 100yrd zero IMO is the best.
1). My eyes aren't doing me a whole lot of good any farther than that.
2). From 0-300yrd your shot will either be spot on (from 100yrd to about 110yrd) or will be about 3 inches low.
3). Any other zeroing scheme has you too high at some distances and too low at others. The 100yrd zero alleviates all that extra math!

50 yard zero is only max 2" high or low out to 250

Much flatter than the 100 yard zero

What is the 50 yard zero like when shooting it at 25 yards?

1.5" low

From the archives:

The 50 yard zero is the greatest thing ever for an AR. If you have the gun shooting dead on at 50 yards it will be about 1.5 inches or so high at 100 yards and dead on the money again at about 225 yards. This means that all you have to do is get your sight on the target anywhere from 50-200 yards and squeeze the trigger and not worry about anything else. Very quick and simple. At point blank range like 10 feet you will have to aim 2-3 inch high for your shot.

The traditional 25 meter zero is a pain in the ass and not fast or accurate IMHO. You zero it at 25 yards and you are then on the money again at 300 yards. After that you can adjust the rear sight with the little drum for each 100 yard increment after that. ( there must be a big call for this 300-600 yards shooting  )

It doesn't sound like to bad of a system but you are like 6 inches high at 100 yards which is actually a range that you would frequently use. and then the huge drop off back to zero at 300 yards.
