can someone go over the various models as I'm looking to add one to a M1A Scout which serves as all purpose rifle? I'm looking for the rugged, no nonsense of a simple and reliable red dot and I know there are various models.
I've been leaning towards the Aimpoint PRO |
|
Aimpoint has the following models:
M-2 (M68 CCO) ML-2 (Lacks Night vision capability) M-3 (Has two different dot sizes, either 2 MOA or 4MOA) ML-3 (Again lacks night vision capabilty) M-4 (Newest military CCO, uses AA battery) T-1 (Micro, endorsed by Larry Vickers, damn near bomb proof) H-1 (Micro, lacks night vision capabilty) PRO (2moa dot, made as less expensive version of the M-3, Same quality) The PRO is a good optic for the money. The small dot allows for more precisionat longer distance. |

The pro is NV compatible. It's is exactly the same as the m3 but instead of 50,000 hrs of battery he pro has 30,000 hrs of battery life. The pro also comes with a qrp2 mount. You won't be disappointed. Its not exactly the same. The tube is constructed in a different manner. |

Not knocking you, you guys are great, but I called you to give you over $700 of my money for an M4 and you were 6 weeks+ out on them. I had a sad after that and had to buy off of EE. Now I gotta spend another $150+ to get one of your mounts. Another sad I has. |
|
It is good, That is why you are paying MORE for it.
So to sum it up. If you want the best go with a T1 or an H1. If you want a great sight at a great price go with a PRO. I would go with a 2moa dot for anything you chose. Its a little more accurate. Any way you go if you chose an Aimpoint you wont be disapointed. I had a chance to buy a used M2 for $350 with a mount (which is a great price). I almost bought it but found a brand new PRO for $400 to the door. I gained some a more precise dot and longer battery life as well as the flip up covers. I also have a full 10 year warrenty. Comparing the two next to each other I couldnt tell them apart until I looked through them. The fit and finish look the same. |

I have a personal Comp M2 and I used an M68 (same thing) in 'stan.
I don't like them. Too bulky/heavy and they obscure too much outside of the objective. I am actually debating selling my Comp M2. It is LNIB, mount, flip ups, kill flash, allen wrench, original receipt. |

Im not sure i understand why you characterize the T and H series as the best. I find the micro dots a bit more difficult to use than the full size tubes. So why the generalization? What makes the T/H series "best"? |

I have two Daniel Defense AR-15s and wanted to use one for long range and one for short range. I bought the Leupold MRK 4, MR/T, 2.5x8x36, with illuminated reticle and couldn't be happier with it!!! For short range, I went with an EoTech and I absolutely LOVE it! Got one of the older models that uses AA batteries and has a 1 MOA dot. Then, instead of getting their insanely overpriced 3X magnifier. |

For an AR I like the m4/ m4s over the t1, but that is just my point of view. I have both aimpoint t1, m4s, and Eotech. I like the m4s the best.
I have no exp with the scout m1a1 or how there mounting is set up. I'm guessing the t1/h1 would be the way to go on them. |

Quoted: thanks everyone...still not sure which to go with but it's good to have this dilemma.... I'll make it easy on ya. Are you on a budget, but need a high quality RDS? Order the PRO and get a LT-150 or LT-129 if you might mount a magnifier behind it. Do you want something lighter? Get the T-1 or H-1 in a LT-660 I've got a ML-3 in a LT-150, and if I could do it over, I would get a H-1 in a LT-660, or a PRO with the LT-129.

| If you are putting it on an M1A Scout Squad, I would assume you are using the rail to mount it. The QRP mount on the Pro is going to put the optic really high, that mount is set up for an AR. I think you can take the spacer out, but it will still be pretty high to get any kind of cheek weld. If you are looking to co-witness with the irons, I think you need the Ultimak M8 rail ($200) and the T1 or H1 would mount the lowest. Larue makes their Ultra-Low 30mm rings that would fit any of the Comp M4, M3, etc red dots. |

I have a T-1 and a PRO, love them both. The T-1 is lighter and has slightly better battery life, maybe ideally suited for your intended purposes?
If you are near a dealer, go there and ask to look at some floor models, play with them, see what you like first-hand. |
