Hi,  I have read past threads but it seems like I am still having trouble choosing a "tactical" scope.  I am looking for $300 or less.  Budget.  I know some will say save/pay more.  I can't and I know I can get a decent scope for this.
I am shooting a 20" RRA and would like a scope for 100-500 yards and maybe even a little farther.  Most on paper, but some coyotes ect..  3-9 might not be enough sp looking at 4-12ish.  Some I am considering are the
Vortex Viper 3-9x40
Nikon Buckmasters 4-12x50
Nikon Prostaff Rifle Scope 4-12x 40mm
Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40
Redfield Revenge 4-12x42mm
Redfield Revolution 4-12x40mm
Millett 4-16x50 TRS-1 Tactical 30mm Riflescope
$300 is a stretch so I would love to spend less.  Some of these are more basic then others but all have high reviews at online stores.  I'm looking for some constructive help so if you are the type that can't imagine spending less then $800 then you might be out of my league.
Thanks in advance.

Excellent way to spend $300:  http://www.midwayusa.com/product/598484/weaver-tactical-grand-slam-rifle-scope-3-10x-40mm-1-10-mil-adjustments-mil-dot-reticle-matte

Excellent bang for the buck.

For $230.00 I would look at this Primary Arms 4-14X44 scope. They are great to deal with and have top notch customer service should you ever need it.

One not on your list that is worth a look is the Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 Adjustable Objective scope.  I too am going through the same thing you are right now, and think I am leaning toward the Vortex as of now.

This is the answer. Forget everything else. I have shot steel out to 700 yards with this scope. It doesn't get any better for $300. I bought 3.

Thanks.  This is the front runner but I am hoping for more input.  Besides what I listed now in the running are
Weaver Tactical Grand Slam Rifle Scope 3-10x 40
Leupold Mark AR Rifle scope 3-9x

Please keep giving input.  More opinions=better decision

The Mk AR is a decent scope. I also have one of the newer Mod 1 3-9 Mk ARs. The older models dont have turrets that match the reticle. The new Mod 1 does plus illumination. If you have to have illumination its a good choice. If you don't, the little Weaver is still a better scope.

The Weaver is made in Japan and its mil/mil. The glass is very clear but the matching turrets and reticle is what sets it apart.

I will be taking some very low light shots in the late evening.  Sometime when cayotes come around house, dangerous, it is night and spotlight lights them up.  I probably need illumination but the Mk AR with illumination is $450.  Out of my price range.  I go between better glass, Weaver, and options like illumination.
Very hard for me to decide.

The Weaver does have better glass but not by much. The Weaver has better turrets also. The one thing that sets the Leupold apart is the illumination. If you don't want to spend the money on the Leupold you may have to find something without turrets and a mildot to get illumination. You may also have to settle for glass that is not as good as well.

I went with the Buckmaster 4-12x 50 with the BDC reticle for my 308. Hinterland Outfitters has it for $277.00. Very, very happy with it. I wanted to keep it under $300 and this was the best price I found for this scope. I have a varmint upper on order for my AR 15. I'll probably step up to the Nikon M-223 series when that arrives.
