I have a magpul back up sight, where is the best place to mount on a flat top? All the way back kinda seems to close to the charging handle.

Always mount mine in first slot. Has never been in the way of the charging handle.

Spread your BUIS as far apart as possible.
Rear BUIS in the rearmost slot.

Mount it right at the very front.
I mount mine in the very rear slot or T1.

First slot on the rail. Take a look at an upper with integral carry handle. The knob on the rear of the carry hand in where the rear sight is. When in the "up" or useable position, your rear sight should be in approximately the same place.
