Greetings.
Simple question for Strikefire owners - what shape is your dot? I know it's a 4 MOA dot, but mine doesn't appear perfectly round. It almost looks "-" shaped and its at an angle from about 2:00 to 8:00 - if that makes any sense. I completely understand that this is a budget optic and I know I am not going to be able to punch ragged .5 MOA holes at 200 yards with my Strikefire - I just want to make sure that this is what it is supposed to look like. I appreciate your help. |

Oh crap, I never considered that. I've been 20/18 my whole life - but I am getting older. F*#^ that sucks to say. Thirty-five is not old - but I'm approaching middle-age which I guess is when that stuff starts happening.

Time to get your eyes checked! Usually means you have an astigmatism I think. |

I just got out to the range this weekend and put a lot of time in behind my strikefire, I experienced the same problem of an oblong dot before I actually took it outside and messed with the brightness settings. If you haven't been out in bright light and have only looked through it say inside your house or the store you purchased it from I wouldn't worry. Even inside you might try pushing the nightvision button and see if the dot rounds out to match your ambient light situation. If you still have the feeling it's not right then i would send it back, even though it's a budget optic it should still be a dot instead of a football |

I thought something was wrong with my SPARC when I first received it. The dot wasn't crisp and was misshapen. Then I read the troubleshooting section on the Vortex website(below)
"If the dot of your riflescope doesn't look perfectly round, the distortion may be caused by the way your eye perceives the dot—making the dot appear misshapen. This is called astigmatism. Most everyone has some degree of natural astigmatism. Here are a few ways to tell if the distortion you are seeing is caused by your eyes or is a problem with the scope: -Look through the scope with your other eye. If the dot changes shape from one eye to the other, the misshapen dot is likely caused by astigmatism. -Look through the scope and rotate the scope on its optical axis. If the irregular shape maintains its position, it's probably because of how your eyes are seeing the dot. If the irregular shape of the dot rotates with the scope, there may be a problem with the scope. -Try photographing the dot. Close the objective flip cover of the scope, place the lens of a digital camera up against the eyepiece of the scope, and take a photo of the dot. Compare the photo with what you are seeing through the scope. If the shape is the same as what you are seeing through the scope, the scope may be defective." http://www.vortexoptics.com/content/troubleshooting |

Just so no one jumps off the bridge. Don't use a strikefire as a diagnostic tool for cataracts or an astigmatism.
I have no issues with my Aimpoints or other upper tier red dot optics. I would just chalk it up to the projector or other construction details of the strike fire. Again not a bad red dot for the money, but it ain't no aimpoint. |
