I have  little better than 20/20  vision (right now) in my early 40's and will be using either a Aimpoint Pro or T-1.  I really don't think I'll be shooting this particular gun over 100+ yards.   Do I really need a magnifier?   Seems like it would be extra to me.    I just think a dedicated longer range rifle would be more ideal.  But I'm new to AR optics so please enlighten me.  Are there any pros that I may not be considering to having one on the rifle?

If your shooting within 100 meters then a magnifier would be a waste. They come into use with your dot at longer ranges, and would make your field of view smaller at close range.

What size of a target do you want to hit?

Coffee can/ paper plate radius.  Not trying to put several in one ragged hole.  I've always used iron sights but put some money down on a Colt 6720 that I think I'd like a red dot on.  Just dont' know too much about them.   My younger brother had an Eotech with a magnifier that flipped out of the way but it just felt more like a distraction than a benefit.

the flip mounts work well for the games I use them on. the added magnification is a plus when getting out to 300+ on plates and mini poppers.

100 yards on coffee cans and larger you do not need a magnifier.

That's what I was thinking.  Thanks!
