[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Good beginner optic?

I've never had an optic on any of my rifles for some reason. I plan on having 500 or so to spend by december. Which optic should I go with? I was looking at the eotech 512. I also like the new compact 3x scope from primary arms that is 180$. I am really new to anything optics though and was looking for some advice.

Eotech, Aimpoint pro both a great choices in that price range.

Also depends on how far your going to shoot. I would get a eotech/aimpoint for 0-300 yards. I like the 512 but then you gotta ask your self if you want absolute or lower 1/3rd co-witness.

What is cowitness? Also, I would be shooting 100 yards mostly.

Co Witness is where your iron sights align on the same plane as your red dot.

I prefer lower 1/3, this puts the plane of your irons in the lower 1/3 of your optic.
