Hi, I'm planning on putting a 4x12 on a flat-top A4 and no fixed front sight. What would be the optimal ring height (low, medium or high) for a nice cheek weld and front objective clearance?
Thanks for your advice! |

It really depends on if that scope has A/O or not, AND what the front Objective is––-whether it's 40, 42, 50, 55MM. This will help to determine the ring heigth and ––––don't laugh, how large your head is. Being serious, as if you have large head, those rings will need to be taller to give you a comfortable cheek weld that is consistant with your shooting. Barrel contour also makes a difference in many cases.
I think I have a normal head, and this is what I use as a guideline. If scope has 32MM Objective I use short/low rings 40MM " " use medium to high rings 42MM " " use high to mid-high rings 50 MM " " use mid-high to very-high rings NOW, if scope has Adjustable Objective, you need to go up 1-2 ring heights to clear properly, and also your base mount will make a difference also with the AR-15 because I've seen low simple scope mounts, while I've also seen some very-high base mounts to clear the Irom Sights that some folks leave on weapon and do a QR clamp system to switch between the 2 different sights. Hope this helps. Del |
