I just retired after 20+ years of LE.....and decided to treat myself. I bought a DD M4V5 LW, and would like to put a nice optic on it. I'm leaning toward the Aimpoint PRO.....but let the suggestions fly......I really don't have a understanding about the MOA? I looked at two PRO's today......a 3 & 4 MOA. And maybe if you know the best place to purchase these, please include that info, or link.

Thanks!

Steve

MOA is basically refers to the size of the dot.  The smaller the number, the smaller the dot.  With a smaller dot size, you can "aim better" at more distant targets.

Take a read at this FAQ

PRO is great.

MOA refers to the size of the dot. Big MOA means easy to see. Small MOA means the dot doesn't cover up small targets.

Either dot size would work,  they're pretty close.  Since they're very bright, size isn't that huge of a deal unless you're going for ultimate accuracy.  I've got a 3MOA and like it. (a 3 moa dot is 3" wide at 100y, so 3 or 4moa, they're both pretty small)

Aimpoint pros are very well regarded.   A great option, and recommended by many.  However, there are some cheaper red dots that offer the same results. (Primary Arms, Vortex)

I'm not an expert, but here's what the MOA means: Minute Of Angle, so basically,1 moa is 1 inch size at 100 yards, 2 moa is 2 inch at 200 yards, etc...  Therefore a 3 moa dot will cover up 3 inches of your target when it is at 100 yards and a 4 moa dot will cover up 4 inches at 100 yards.  Bigger dots are better for fast, close in shooting, and smaller dots are better for longer range, more precise shooting.
As far as a scope goes, it depends on what type you want and what your purpose is, so you'll have to decide between variable power and red dot.  Hope that helps.

MOA info already mentioned, but a great place to get it is AZarmament or anyone else from the industry partners section. This is in no way a advertisement for them, just saying thats where I ordered my PRO from, and it arrived quickly. I got if for 387.00 shipped with this coupon code:    HHJKL00325

I have a PRO on my DDM4V5 and I really, really, like that set up.

A place to buy a pro would be AZArmament and use the Arfcom coupon code: HHJKL00325
I think it comes out to $388.50 and they have free shipping going on.

There are lots of other places to find the PRO for under $400, this is just one of them.

I've had the PRO on my AR for about 2 years now.  It hasn't come off since going on and it's been extremely effective.  Definitely a great option and you don't have to break the bank.  When they were first released, I paid just under $400.
