I just got an eotech. never used a sight before. just iron sights. Love this thing. my questions are:
When you store it for a month or more can you leave the battery in it. Its a c123a? I am thinking not. Also now it is lined up with the front post. So kind of gets in the way for sight picture. Is there a rail attachment the will raise the sight so the front post will be in the bottom 1/3 of the sight so I can still use my iron sights? I love the eotech but still hold on to the old ways Iron sights forever. Thanks |

. I store mine with the battery compartment cracked open...this serves two purposes for me. It shuts the unit off easier than trying to figit with the buttons and it allows the battery to vent. There are riser bases available for eotech's and other optics for that very reason. |

I leave batteries in. But I also leave a loaded mag in my weapon and the bcg open just in case some event were to happen that needed to be ended quickly (probably never happen, but there are thousands who have said that before). Its up to you but really there isnt much to be lost if you leave them in. Leave em in, and your sight is ready to go. I guess leaving them out and in good storage prevents corrosion, etc... Do what is easiest and most convienent for you and fits your rifles purpose.
You can also find risers of varying height for your sight. Just my 2 cents |

The battery drain issue was allegedly with the AA version (and then it appeared to only affect non-lithium batteries). I haven't heard any issues with the 123 versions. Leave them in.
Rock River Arms and Yankee Hill Machine have risers for the Eotech. RR's is a one piece riser and A2 rear site combo. YHM is just a riser. |
Maybe battery out isn't a bad idea. Yesterday i couldn't get mine to turn on, sat for about a month with only about 5-10 hours of battery use. I unscrewed the battery cap and checked for corrosion, there was none, then i put the same battery back in and it came on.
