I have a TA33 on the way, as I can't do red dot's anymore( astigmatism).

I researched for 4 days before I decided what acog would suit me. The only question I have left is, of what I have read about 3x acog's with the Larue mount having a blurry area in the bottom half of the objective because of the fixed front site?

Has this been enough of a hassle to warrant installing a gas block flip up front site? I have read that some have ended up doing this.

I have never had this problem with low mounted 1-4x or a 3-9x scope set on 3x. Is there something different about the acog 3x?

I know I will just have to see for myself when my acog gets here, and I mount it up in the Larue LT105, but the curiosity is killing me and I just wanted to hear some other experiences.

Thanks hive

If Im playing around the house, dry firing I notice mine.  When I'm on the range and focused on the target I do not.

You'll never know it (the front sight) is there, save for a very slight smudge or shadow. You'll have to be practically looking for it to see it.

I have a fold down front sight, but I've shot my Acog with it up. There is a very slight blur at the bottom. If it bothers you too much, get a fold down front sight.

As others have said, it is slightly blurry at the bottom of the reticle. Sometimes I notice it, other times I don't. Had been planning on cutting down the FSB and putting on a rail and flip front sight anyway.

Thanks so much for the input everyone

Looks like I won't have to worry about it. Of coarse I love to home gunsmith, and might just install a flip up gas block site anyway. It's the only thing left that I haven't done on an AR

I'll give an update when I have the TA33, and Larue mount here.

My personal experience with TA33s, TA31s, and higher magnification scopes (10x) on ARs is that 4x and below will show a FSB shadow that you may be able to train yourself to ignore, but personally I go with a fold down front sight on my ACOGs, fixed FSBs are OK for me on Aimpoints with a lower 1/3 cowitness.

Yeah, the more and more I think about it, the more I am leaning toward a flip up gas block. My days of red dot's are pretty much over anyway's.

How well do the gas block flip up sites hold up to abuse? I won't be going into harms way, but wondering about running and gunning or just simply getting dropped?

i have a ta01 and a troy front flip up and you dont really see the front site unless you focus on it. the magnification somehow blocks it out or should i say blurs it. BTW i have a astigmatism also and i went too the eye doc and got contacts. there made for astigmatism and when i shoot i put them on and the red dots look perfect. i have insurance though so my contacts didnt cost me that much mybe 10 bucks.

I haven't had a problem with mine, but the barrel is dimpled for the set screw and the rail covers the gas block. The upper I am working on now I am going to cut down the FSB into a low proflie gas block and that certainly will be sturdy enough.

Got the TA33G-8 in today, and I can definitely see the shadow of the FSP in the lens.

Going to order a Flip up front, as I don't like seeing it there.
