| I have seen a ncstar scope with a holograph on top of it I am interested in a good compact size scope and a holographic sight on my new ar. What do yall recommend scope with holograph on top/ scope with a holograph on a 45/ scope with holograph on side of my quad rail. Any brands and models recommended not looking to spend over $250 thanks for any input. |

It's not a real holographic reticle like a Bushnell or EOTech Holosight.
It's just a cheap red-dot reflex sight that has a squared off window like a holosight to make you think it's one. IIRC, Bushnell/EOTech-L3 hold or license the patents on the tech, and are the only ones who can make or sell them in America still. The Chinese will copy everything they can lay hands on, but since the NcStar stuff is sold above the radar through many major retailers, and the way the optics companies watch everyone like hawks because they're MAP-Nazis... (Minimum Advertised Price) I'm sure they wouldn't stand for this either. To save money get something from Primary Arms or Vortex. (Or the lower end of Bushnell's line) These are also Chinese made, but these American companies hold their suppliers feet to the fire over quality control, (I mean The Chinese can and DO make great stuff, like the computer you're reading Arfcom on, your phone, your TV... etc. etc. etc...) and they'll give you decent Stateside warranty support. |

for what you want there is a decent mount $70 decent scope $300 decent mini red dot $100
Buy once cry once you will learn once your out on a hunt and your rifle falls the scope takes the brunt of it, and shatters into a million pieces... BTW have you ever considered a red dot or holographic sight by themself? they acomplish all of what you describes. Aimpoint PRO $400 or less |
| with the aimpoint PRO you have a 2 MOA dot which is great for longer range shooting. I have an EOTech 552 and have hit targets out to 250 yds I don't think I have ever taken a shot at any animal over 200yds with any guns so I would feel comfortable to go hunting with just a Red dot. of course there is the option of a magnifier I suggest using only if you have bad eyes |

im not trying to open a can of worms with this just looking for some good info on the sights for under $250 Not a can of worms. It's just that when you say Holographic Sight that means a very specific thing, and we don't want you to get ripped off. The EOTech and Bushnell holographic sights use a diode laser to illuminate a holographic film, which gives you the steroscopic optical effect of viewing a crosshairs or circle & dot hanging in space 100 yards out in front of your firearm. A basic reflex red-dot just reflects a dot from a red LED light off the lens to hold it in the center of the tube. They're very different. And the products like the NcStar with that square window is intended to deceive you. If you just mean you want a sight with no magnification and a lit dot, and you're just incorrectly using the term "Holographic" that's okay, we just want to be clear here. However even in the case of just plinking or range-only use, and not for SHTF or competition, I still say go with Vortex or Primary arms. They're the right balance between "cheap" and "customer support" IMO. The NcStar stuff belongs on Airsoft guns, and cheap ones at that.

These guys won't steer you wrong. I've had NCstar optics that came with my DPMS as a package deal literally fall off. The sights and mount were garbage. At the very least grab a Vortex Sparc for $199 or a Bushnell Trophy MP for $125+. You will be MUCH happier though neither will have the Eotech "holographic" look.
But both are well regarded budget red dots for what you are using them for. As for magnifiers, the Sparc comes with a X2 that is not usually praised too highly. Primary Arms, Burris and Vortex all make x3 magnifiers that go for $250-ish with a flip to side mount of decent quality or you can get a sun optics for $50. If I was you I'd spend the $500 on either a true holographic eotech if that's the style you want or the Sparc/ x3 mag with flip to side mount. Total price on Optics Planet is $449 with free shipping http://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-sparc-red-dot-sight-sprc.html http://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-optics-vmx3-magnifier-w-swing-mount.html |

I'm not one who says this much, and usually stay out of threads like this one. But I have to. NcStar's stuff is junk, plain and simple. If you're lucky enough to not break it trying to mount it, you'll probably never get it sighted in.
A lot of the guys here like the Primary Arms red dots. I don't have one but will probably pick one up to put on a fun gun sometime. Look at some of the makers like Weaver or Bushnell for a usuable scope in your price range. It doesn't sound like you need or want a patrol or combat quality optic. Look at sites like Midway or SWFA or Sportoptics.com as well as Primary Arms. You can probably find plenty of choices. |
