Well, I am thinking of purchasing an Aimpoint Pro to slap on my new AR build, but at the moment I am running a LT fixed rear sight and was wondering how you guys ran these with the absolute co-witness. Is it a bad idea for me to run a fixed sight behind optics? I would prefer a lower 1/3 co-witness, but I am on a budget and dont plan on spending much more for the time being.

I would like to hear your thoughts and maybe even see some pictures of your setups.

Thank you!

the pro is one of the best values in the gun business. I personally go with the troy fold down rear, less cluttered sight picture. Perhaps if I was kicking down doors for a living I might want the rear sight up but for my use I don't. Either way you can't go wrong.

SKD is having a sale today, 10% off everything, that puts the PRO at $360 shipped. At that price you could give it a try and sell it and break even most likely if you dont like it.

lol I was in the market for a RDS and saw that post. Now I am trying to figure out how I need my rifle setup since it gives an absolute co-witness. More than likely I am ordering this sight, but I may have to change my rear for something else. Or better yet, find a quality low cost mount that allows a lower 1/3 co-witness.

Aimpoint Pros are good.

Fixed rear sights are a matter of preference.

Absolute or lower 1/3rd are a matter of preference.

Absolute can help mitigate dot bloom for people with an astigmatism.

LMT fixed rear behind an Aimpoint Comp M in a LaRue mount, lower 1/3rd.

Fixed LaRue rear behind an Aimpoint T1 in a LaRue mount, lower 1/3rd.

Thanks for that.  I was about to order a couple of these from another place for just a tiny bit more, but the other website doesn't indicate whether they are in stock or not.

OP.  I don't believe I have ever seen anyone run a fixed rear sight with an optic.  If I were you, I would just invest in a fold down.  Many places have the MBUS on sale right now.  I don't like the sight picture afforded by the MBUS that much, so I have taken to installing Troy's on all of my rifles.  Plus, the metal construction just gives me that little bit of better confidence in them.  At the same time, if you are truly going to use them as back ups, and they stay folded most of the time, I guess it doesn't really matter.

You mean except for the post right before yours?

I believe it's more common than you think.

I said I had never seen it, which I hadn't.  That post before mine was posted while I was typing, so even then, I had not seen until after I wrote what I wrote.  And even still, looking around, it appears not to be the norm.

I run an ACOG with a yankee hill folded down behind it on one, and an aimpoint M3 with the rear sight up on another. The rear sight doesnt bother me shooting both eyes open with the aimpoint, but it is already up if making a more precise shot with the lower 1/3 cowitness and irons, FWIW.

I run my PRO on an LMT 14.5. I love it.

I like lower 1/3.  Just watch the EE and get a used LaRue LT150 or LT129 (Or an ADM  as they are often even cheaper.

Thank you all for your input. I went ahead and purchased the Aimpoint Pro for the nice $360 price tag. Hopefully they have enough in stock to fill all the orders they received today. If the absolute co-witness bothers me too much, I guess I will just pull the LT sight off until I can afford an ADM mount that will give me the 1/3 I am after.
