So Im getting up there in age and Ive decided on buying a 1-4x scope ( Vortex Viper PST) . Ive never used a scope before and have predominantly used Aimpoint  Micro for the past few years on my duty carbine.  Im stuck on capped or uncapped turrets since I've never been formally educated on using them. My duty load is a 5.56mm 55g Soft Point and i was looking at where to find out how to use the turrets if I go uncapped. Anyone with any info would be greatly appreciated.

There is also a option for MOA or MRAD with the reticle and turrets  any thoughts on this ?

MOA or MIL is a matter of preference. Used in making shot corrections, you don't think in linear dimensions, anyway. You think in divisions of the scale you're using. If your hit is .5 mil off, you correct by .5 mil. Same for MOA.

If you go to the Vortex web site, you can download the manuals for the scope and find how to use it. If you want to practice making corrections with the turret, try this site: http://www.shooterready.com/index.html

I use uncapped turrets for the ease of option. I can make a hold over shot if I don't have time or having time, I can dial in my correction.

The vortex pst comes with zero stop turrets so it's easy to get back to zero and quickly.

Uncapped is the way to go, unless u are worried about bumping around your duty rifle, u might need need to make a quick shot and the uncapped scope is off zero.

But if u are not worried about that then uncapped all the way, quick adjustments, easy to read, and most importantly it's tacticool
