| I bought a PM290 and PM 137 detachable iron sight set recently. Got what I thought was a good deal on them in Cabela's Bargain Cave, but now I wonder. I can't adjust the front post. It has what appears to me to be an A2 detent system, but I'm certainly no expert. I bought an A2 tool, by UTG, but the posts appear to be too thick to enagae in the nothes on the post. Am I missing something? Thanks. |

I think the first mistake was Promag, and the second being UTG, but see if this helps:
Try depressing it with the tip of a .223/5.56 round. This is how we did it in basic training. Keep in mind that these are designed to only go up a little at a time. Try finding something that will keep the detent depressed and rotate the post continuously counter clockwise until it comes out. If it doesn't come out make sure all parts are rotating. On some sights there is a secondary rotating device just under the post that the post sits in that may not be rotating. ETA: looks like sinlessorrow and OLCrow beat me to the punch by seconds. |

Thanks, everyone. What would be some good brands? As long as you are not mounting on a railed gas block, the polymer Magpul MBUIS would be the entry level. Here' are some pics and descriptions of the popular rear sights... Rear Sights |

Too bulky, to cheapy looking for me. The MI sights are better in my opinion, here's a link. I use Troy sights. http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=79 Are you mounting the sight on a railed gas block or railed forearm? Be sure to order the correct one. |

I don't either, just trying not to blow up the price point too badly The MI sights are better in my opinion, here's a link. I use Troy sights.
http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=79 As soon as you get out of Magpul and used MaTech you are around a buck for the front and a buck for the rear. I run Troy. |
| Yankee hill makes some good inexpensive sights as well. The spring loaded ones run more than the manual variety which I've had on my carbine for years. Also check out the polymer ARMS sights. They run the same price range as magpul and are less bulky and "funky" looking. |
