| The other day i was doing some night training with my Glock. It has the night sights. So then I went with my .45 which didnt have night sights. I couldnt see that well at all. Then, I pulled out the remington 870. Could see that well. So I take out the AR15. Guess what? couldnt see well. Why do many of us have the standard sights on our AR but state its for home defense yet have never shot it or even looked at the sights during reduced to no visibility. Even with a tac light, you still need the sights. Your thoughts? |

That is exactly how I felt (see the target). I have been a cop and I am currently on active duty as a pilot. I was talking with an infantry officer the other day about shooting and night and he said they only have to do a night time familarization with 25 meter targets. You couldnt really see anything. Well most issues occur at night so you need to be able to see. What if someone breaks into your house but you push them out yet the take up a position and continue to fire? you need to be able to line up sights but you wont be able to use a light.
That brings me to my next issue. I have been trained military and as a cop. The tactics arent as similar as you would think. Tactics for civillian situations are even different because most engagements will be without warning and almost always defensive, seldom offensive. Once you become offensive, there are legal issues. Anyway I want to encourage you all to train, train, train. Go home and move around your house at night with your weapons. look outside and see how far you can see. know your blind spots. know where you can take up defensive positions outside the home that cover the entrance/exits. Conduct some AR home defense drills. But I would also practice dropping and inserting mags when you cant see. As far as visibility I am going to get some night sights and soon!! I may repost this in training..... |
| FWIW, I don't know what the "infantry officer" is talking about because as a lowly MP we shoot at night with PVS14s and IR pointers and also just use our CCOs to shoot quals at night up to 150m. If I feel that I have gotten plenty of night shoot training, the infantry must have if they have ever deployed. |
