I have an old Tasco spotting scope and I want to upgrade.  I'm looking to spend around 300.00 and it will be used primarly at the range.  Currently, I'm looking at one of the Konus scopes, suggestions?

Only way to tell is to look through them at distance.

Everything looks great at 50 yards, try making out .22 shot holes at 500..... whole different ball game.

I'm sure Cabela's has everything you could reasonably want on display. Ask the guy to take you outside and test 'em out.

Konus is really your best value in that price range. I have the Konus 20-60x 80mm spotter and love it. I put it side-by-side to a Kowa
on a 200 yard range and the only real difference I could see is that the Kowa had 'slighty' less atmospheric haze (probably due to having
ED glass in it). I would say the 80mm should be good for 300/400 yards. BTW, MidwayUSA has the 100mm on sale right now:

You'll have to spend a lot more money to beat the Konus.

I have the 20-60x80. It can see .223 holes at 300 all day on white paper and if conditions are right, and white paper is used, holes can be seen at 500.

Any scope that can see .223 holes at 500 is special!

I'm about to pull the trigger on that deal, best price around as far as I can tell.  I'm also trying to find a good small tripod for that scope as I believe the Konus weighs a little less than 6 pounds.

I read several reviews of the 20-60x100 complaining that it is very front heavy so a sturdy bipod is definitely recommended.

I went with the 80mm in order to save the hassel of the added size and weight and have been totally satisfied.

It would be interesting to see if the 100mm is significantly better....it would have to be great to beat the 80 though.

Be sure to give a report at 300 and 500+ yards.

I was gonna ask the same question, as our group is also looking for a decent spotting scope.

What's the difference between the Midway scope and this one at Amazon: Konus 7120

The Midway one has a 100mm front lens and is not a small spotter.
The Amazon one has an 80mm front lens.  They are both 20-60X.
The 100mm lens should, in theory, bring in more light.  So under less than idea conditions, it would be clearer than the 80mm.

So, other the objective lens diameter, the quality should be similar, correct?  I think I would just go with the 80 mm model.

I too decided on the 80mm Konus 7120 from OpticsPlanet which has a much better price then that Amazon link.  Don't forget a 5% coupon for OP.

Hopefully I'll have it tomorrow.
