Looking into optics for my build. I know you get what you pay for, but I'm not willing to shell out $500. I've done some research on Barska and their products seem to get good reviews. Has anyone on here had personal experience with their products and overall quality?

There is an optics forum and this question would be more appropriate there. Optics forum

I'm sure your topic will get moved there so no need to repost it there.

In the meantime, tell us what kind of optic you're interested in and we can give you some more cost effective options.

if you want a quality cheap optic, look at primary arms or go millet, mueller, or nitrex.

For a Quality Cheap scope

I would go w/  weaver line

Ive had good luck with bushnel mid price range scope`s

In the late 80`s I put a simmons 3-9x on my Bolt Action 222rem
I paid 35 bucks for it.
It held its zero and would hold sub MOA all day long
Havent bought any simmons lately so I dont know if there quality has gone down

Thanks for the quick responses and sorry for posting in the wrong area. Looking to spend around $150-200 on some sort of 3-9x 40mm or similar scope for now. And maybe about the same a bit down the road on a red dot or holographic.

Edit: also was looking at redfield. They were recently acquired by leupold I heard.

I have a Barska Trijcon lookalike with illuminated reticle.  Mine works fine.  I have it on my 5.45 upper.

I'm a big fan of Vortex optics. Look into this model . Its in your price range.  I have a smaller magnification version of this same scope and really like it. Vortex Diamondback

They also make a red dot in the same price range. I also own it. Strikefire

They have an unconditional lifetime warranty. Basically the same warranty as Leupold.

Bushnell 3200 is pretty good

Another option is to watch the EE closely for something that you'd be interested in.

I've heard really good things about the Fastfire, I had considered one for my 870.

Most my Barskas’ have worked well.  I’ve only owned one that has crapped-out to date.

But as cheapie go, I’ve had the best luck with Leapers/UTG.  Their optics are very clear (as cheap scopes go) and so far none of their examples that I have owned over the years have shit the bed on me…

The Barska red dot I bought broke just from turning the brightness knob a few times. Never even got a chance to shoot with it.

Suggest you take a look at the Sightmark 1x33x24 Ultra Shot Holographic for $99.95 at SWFA.

Meh, I'd rather buy quality optics up front and not have to worry about my optics "shitting the bed on me" every time I went shooting. I understand it can happen with any brand but its a lot less likely with known quality components.

I went with a Vortex Vipe in 2-7 power and LOVE that thing.  Clear bright picture and at x2 I can see pretty clearly for shots up to 20yrds or so.

Don't do the BARSKA.  Go with the Vortex or a Primary Arms at the very least.

Because Lancelot moves threads out of this forum whether they actually belong here or not. Why do you feel the need to be the forum police? Do ever actually post anything helpful to anyone's questions? All you seem to do is bitch about threads being in the wrong place. Either help or STFU. Its not a hard concept. If you don't have anything insightful to say in a thread, why post in it? I can see how you have almost 5000 posts in less than 4 years.

Thank you guys for all the help. Just placed an order for the Vortex Sparc because I found a deal for $180 and I like the aimpoint micro look.

I think you will be happy with it. Like I said, I've loved my vortex products and they have a lifetime warranty. When the forward just came out, a guy on here bough one and basically torture tested it. Left it in snow all night, threw it on his roof, iirc, lots of other things and it held up well.

This is indicative of my experience with Barska.  Yes, the top turret says up and down, too.  The optics seemed fine at the store, but when I got it into the field there was significant distortion toward the edges.  I took it back.
