What is your group size when shooting a 16" .223 using a 4 MOA red dot at 100 yard shooting 5 shots.

I go from 3 to 5" groups with flip up sights down to 2.5" to <1" with a 10 power scope, using handloads of various types.  I would say a 4-moa red-dot would be between that.

But if using PMC, Wolf, etc. plinking ammo, anywhere from 4" to 12" or more.

This is on a 16" heavy bbl. with a free float rail.  Off the bench.  Front and rear of gun rested.

You didn't specify if this is standing, bench, prone, etc.

I went to range today and forgot to bring my steel plates so I shot some groups for the first time (besides initial zero). I was shooting a 14.5" Centurion Arms CHF barrel with Federal XM193 and getting just under 2" 10 shot groups at 100 yards (1.92", 1.86", and 2.05" ). This was shot from prone, supporting the gun on the magazine. Optic was a T-1, no magnification.

For those of you with more experience with groups and XM193 - how acceptable is this? I think I may be able to get groups down a little bit with sand bags and a bit more trigger discipline but I don't know how much more.

If you are shooting plinking ammo, you are not going to drop that significantly below 4” groups regardless of the optics. If you are getting under 2”, you are just plain lucky!

For precision handloads, I have shot a 1.3 MOA 5 round group using a 2 MOA M4s going prone with a bipod. The problem with the 4 MOA red dot is that at least for me, it is too big to see the black part of an NRA target behind it and so difficult to aim and know you got your shot centered. With the 2 MOA dot, you got black round the edges and so make aiming possible.

Honestly, with that set up and an unmagnified optic, those groups are so good it makes me wonder if you know how to measure groups.

Unfortunately I do not have my previous targets to take a picture of but I have my last target of the day. This is a 10 shot group with an Eotech EXPS 3-0 (1moa dot), Centurion Arms 14.5" Barrel, shooting Federal XM193 at 100 yards. This was also shot from prone, using magazine as support, no sand bags, etc.

I know this isn't as fancy as some would like with the calculated MOA etc, but all I have is a pair of calipers. The previous targets were also measured in this way.

ETA: The black circle is 2", inner circle measures 1".

That's a fantastic group.
