So I get a new mount for my H1 to replace the KZ one that came with the sight from Botach. I turn the first screw and it just falls out, I look at the screw and the threads are ok but inside the base of the Micro everything is stripped almost all the way to the top of the opening. I think ok there are 3 screws holding it in so it's still ok so I move on diagonally from the stripped one and the second one does the same thing. I'm looking at 2 completely smooth openings that the little screws just chewed up and the sight is only a year old. I called Aimpoint and sent it out for repair today but there is no way it can be fixed , an aluminum housing with steel screws is a receipt for disaster.
Anyone else run onto issues like this ? |

I have read about it and that was one of my greatest fears with the T1 I had.
I don't understand why they don't the route that Trijicon did with the ACOG and put a steel insert into the base that your screws then go into. Aluminum threads and steel screws/bolts makes my head hurt and cause me to shake

I had the same thing happen. When I spoke to CS I explained that the Aimpoint was purchased used and that I used it at work on my patrol rifle. I had a brand new optic delivered in two weeks. I was impressed with Aimpoint CS. I don't think that these optics were designed to be mounted/remounted with any frequency.
Good luck, Rob |

Hopefully they'll get it sorted out for you. The torque rating on small screws like these is only 15 - 20 inch pounds. If you have access to a torque wrench, put a socket on it and then use a matching Allen wrench in the socket to see just how much/little that is. I was surprised. A safe way is to put the long end of the Allen in the screw and twist on the short end. This helps to keep from over tightening them. |
