I have an older style (A2) Colt Sporter with a PON 3X78 night scope mounted on it. The offset between the barrel & the scope center is around 6". The scope is capable of sighting targets up to 400 yards at night, so I need to be able to hit targets out to that range. While discussing this with a gunshop tech, we were debating the problem and any solutoins.
If I zero at 100, or 200 yards, there will be a high incidence of divergence between the scope & the bullet trajectory since the paralax of scope & barrel is so extreme making near or far shots wildly off target unless I have a chart to figure the amount at each distance. The tech figured it wasn't worth mounting on that rifle. My thought on this was to zero at 100 yards so the impact was 6" below sight mark so that I'd have the consistent 6" holdover at any range, plus bullet drop for ranges past 100 yards. This way my barrel/scope offset would be counterable without much encumberance to memorize other than the holdover. Does anyone have experience or recommendations for this type of situation? http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/2286/img0169xo.jpg |
