i read someplace that once you sight your eotech you can remove it and place it back in the same spot on the rile and it will keep zero. how true is that

Like stated above. Mine seems to work the same. I have removed it a few times, and never had to re-zero.

My 512 is dead on for 50/200 and it's been off and on several times.

i put a witness mark on the screw, so i can line it up every time
although before i put it on there, i never had poi shifts on them ever
