hey guys im currently using the troy fixed rear battle sight on my 16" midlength and right now my only access is to a 25 yard indoor range. my question is how should i set up my zero? do i just go for bullseyes at 25 yards or can i use something like the red dot threads 25y 50/200? this will be my primary sights until i save up the cash for an optic... thanks

for a 50/200 yard zero you should sight in about an inch to inch and a quarter low @ 25 yards.  it will vary slightly dependant on bullet weight and barrel length but it will be close enuff until you can get on a larger range.

I normally set mine up for 25/300 and just figure that i will be high in between.

Tritium front sights are nice - i have a trijicon one.
There are a couple downsides that i have found.
One is sighting it in, since the vial is lower than the top of the front sight post, you either have to guestimate or shift POI to be lower than desired.
The other is that normal front sight adjustment tools will not work - and most of the time neither will the tip of a round. The sight has two levels, the base level controls the elevation while the top level allows the vial to be re oriented. It can be a PITA to adjust on the fly. I normally use a small hex key to get it rotated. That being said, i do like having it on my rifle, but i don't feel like it is a necessity (I just got it for free)

Check out this thread with sight in targets - it will help you zero in on where you need to be

Good point.
If you hold low you will see the target better in the dark anyway.
Your sight picture and hold will probably differ enough between a scaled 25 meter target and 300 meter target enough to effect Point of Impact.
You have to shoot at actual ranges for maximum familiarity with weapon and round used.

Fastfire II with riser would make a good cowitness sight and you can verify zero between the two.  Torque on screws must be the same when you take red dot on and off. I have more trouble reindexing the cheaper riser I have than the difference between POI when I replace cell.
