I have an Aimpoint T1 in a Larue Offset mount that I use along with my TA33 ACOG.  I like the setup for the most part and I don't plan to change it.  That said, the one issue I have with the setup is that the offset mounted T1 is pretty big (relatively speaking), and I'd like to have the slimmest setup I can for any future builds.

I'm just wondering if RMR's or FastFires in offset mounts are significantly smaller?  What mounts are the best for that use?  Alternatively, is there is an offset mount besides the Larue that gives the T1 a smaller profile (quick detach isn't really needed for something that's out of the way anyway)?

Relatively small as the T1 is, it's still big compared to the likes of the RMR, Docter and Burris Fastfire. I accept that if you put risers, protective wings etc, it increases a mini-dots overall bulk, but I don't have to take mine into battle, so don't need all that extra junk. I haven't tried one yet, but understand the RMR is pretty tough anyway.

I am a huge fan of offset mini dots on scoped rifles. I have noticed that some mounts just attach them wherever they can get them in, and they can end up in odd positions, and a considerable distance from the upper receiver/barrel. I always look for a mounting option that places the sight as close to the bore as possible whilst remaining usable, and such that the adjustment axes of the sight are oriented in the conventional sense to the bore(I know what I mean)...

My choice is a short rail at the 1-2 o'clock position towards the rear of the float tube, with a mini dot on a QD mount. Doesn't have to be a QD mount, I just happened to have one that put it at the right height and it doesn't hurt to be able to remove it..

This one's on my dedicated rimfire fungun but it demonstrates what I mean. What works for me about this setup is that I do not alter my hold or cheekweld at all when changing between the scope and dot during a stage, but simply rotate the gun in the shoulder slightly.

What I would try and avoid is having the dot mounted out on something that puts it a long way from the bore, as the zero will be good, but sight line and bullet path will diverge more quickly, either side of your zero distance.

I have one of these for work..

..but with a Docter mini-dot on top of the ACOG (TA01NSN). That puts it a whopping @5.5" above the bore and gives you no cheekweld at all. It's not good..........
